This has been another great week for apps and games. We got to have some fun with great ports of some of our favorite games and find out about new apps that make our lives a lot better. There were also quite a few fantastic updates that really made our preexisting apps take on a whole new life.
Whether you are hoping to play god, want a little culture, or have a hankering to explore the deep ocean, we have a list of apps and games for you to check out this weekend…
This fun “God game” has been keeping me busy for hours. Players build a society and then help its people grow into fully civilized beings. Your job, as god of this world, is to sculpt the land so that your little dudes can move around, build houses, and plow fields. You can drag the land outward to create more places for them to explore, or dig away at the layers in order to reveal flat lands for building. The more you do for them, the more they believe in you. Belief is like money in this place. You need it to perform those miracles they love so much. This game is available for free.
Zombie High DiveGet ready for some serious high-dive action as you flip, pike, and soar from great heights as a brain dead athlete. Players aim their zombies and jump from all manner of platforms into all manner of pools. Aim the correct trajectory in order to make it into the liquid without losing a limb. Tap the “spin” button to perform tricks that will earn you extra points. If you do it right, you’ll earn a high score. If you don’t, well… you might lose your head. This game is available for free.
82nd & Fifth from the MetThe 82nd & Fifth project was started by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Throughout 2013, the Met invited 100 museum curators to talk about 100 works of art. This app features all 100 of those two-minute talks. The video includes dozens of photographs of the subject matter, overlaid with audio from the curator speaking about his or her impression of the work of art. You can learn more in 200 minutes from this app than you could learn from a lifetime of visiting museums around the world. You can also explore a photographic rendering of the artwork, view a linear, chronological outline of the selected piece, and see a spatial geographical outline of works of art selected for this series. This app is available for free.
Crash and Burn RacingRacing games are so boring, right? You know what can make them fun? Weapons. Explosions. Maniacs. This game features all of that, and more. Players get behind the wheel of the craziest car they can find and outfit it with the most powerful weapons they can get. Then, take to the streets for an all-out assault on the other drivers. Sure, some unsuspecting spectators might get splattered by a car bomb, but they shouldn’t have been out on the street, anyway. You can upgrade your car with faster wheels and better handling, purchase bigger and badder weapons, and even get a custom paint job that reflects your personality. This game is available for free.
Time Tangle – Adventure TimeI’ve said it before: I love Adventure Time. Any time a game comes out starring my favorite heroes, I’m down for the count. In this game, players get to punch stuff. Yeah. Battle bad guys like Lemongrab, Maja the Sky Witch, Giant Goo Skulls, and more. Rescue Jake and Finn’s friends with the help of Lady Rainicorn, LSP, and more. Run and punch is the name of this game. Grab coins and sandwiches as you run through mathematical obstacle courses while holding terrified residents of the Land of Ooo. Yes, those voices are from the actual voice actors for Jake and Finn. This game is available for $2.99.
AlterWhen you are in a hurry, why should you waste time actually typing a to-do list? Instead let this app create a list for you from your messages and emails. If your wife asks you to pick up some cat food on the way home from work, you can copy and paste the text and it will automatically populate a list for you. You can start the list from a specific point in the conversation, and add the info to a list that you can check off as you go along. If you need to remember to get a card for your anniversary, as well as make reservations and pick up your dry cleaning, you won’t have to worry about accidentally forgetting to put an item on your list. This app is available for $0.99.

It is the weekend again. But, not everyone will have the joy of sitting on the porch with friends, cracking a cold one and a joke as the hours slowly tick by. Some of us will be pulling weeds in the hot sun, or driving hundreds of miles to visit family, or even working.
No matter what you are doing this weekend, try to make time for relaxing. If you are looking for some new apps and games, check out our list below. You might find just what you need to make your weekend perfect.
If you are the type of gamer that, somewhere in your past (or possibly present), sat around a table with a group of friends and played such games as Dungeons and Dragons, this is the kind of game you will enjoy. It harkens back to a real tabletop experience, complete with character sheets, maps, and more. There is even a simulated set of gamer’s dice for you to roll. As you explore a handcrafted dungeon, you will find loot cards that can give you special items, stronger armor, and even better weapons. Using your newly collected swag, you will be ready to fight off the strange beings you will encounter when entering an unknown room. This game is available for $3.99.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this app to return to the App Store. There has been an official Disney World app for a while now, but the West Coast theme park hasn’t had one in years. With this official app, users can log into their Disney account to scan tickets or annual passes, check park hours and ride closures, and check current wait times for rides throughout the park. You can also find out where your favorite characters will be set up for meeting, search the map for restaurants, and even find out where the closest bathroom is. This app is available for free.
Just when you thought you knew everything about the pellet-munching half circle, a new game comes out that throws it all out of whack. In this endless arcade maze, players control Pac-Man as he chomps though neon mazes that twist and turn. In addition to being chased by ghosts, you are followed by the ever-present, infamous 256 Glitch as it tries to tear your coding apart. There are also special power ups (beyond the power pellets that let you eat ghosts) like bombs, lasers, and stealth mode. While the basic rules of Pac-Man still apply, this is one arcade classic that will really push your limits. This game is available for free.
Maybe you are the type of person that just can’t stand classic games like Pac-Man getting a lot of changes. Instead of trying to convince yourself that the game is terrible, even though you haven’t played it, try a whole new game that has a pellet-munching traveler that eats his way through mazes. In this game, players are constantly being chased by a red foe. However, the only way to get him off your back is to switch the bridge at just the right moment, so he is stuck on the other side of the maze. Hopefully, it will be a side you’ve already gobbled all of the pellets on. This game is available for free.
LinkedIn LookupHaving hundreds of work related contacts for LinkedIn doesn’t really do you any good if it takes forever to find them. With this new contacts app from the official business-networking site, you can get the information you need about the people that will be in your next meeting. You can also look up contacts by skill, title, and more. Of course, the app makes it possible for you to call, text, or email your contacts with one tap. This app is available for free.
Spiral RideIf you loved Impossible Road and just can’t get enough of the bang-your-head-against-a-wall action, then you might want to take a moment to absorb this game. You don’t tilt to stay on track. However, you must tap the screen whenever the arrows approach in order to switch lanes and avoid being thrown off into the abyss. Along the way, you will collect cubes that add to your score. Don’t be mistaken. It is not going to be easy. You’ve been warned. This game is available for free.

Police Drones Prepare For The Cup
In preparation for the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian police used a drone to hunt a notorious gang kingpin. The drone used was an Israeli-made Heron, and key to finding the kingpin was an onboard infrared camera. According to Brazilian officials, the drone allowed for a safer capture than would otherwise have been possible in the hostile favelas, which Brazilian police attempted to pacify before the eyes of the world turned to Rio.

Writing in MIT newspaper The Tech, law professor Henry H. Perritt Jr. and helicopter pilot Eliot O. Sprague argue that the Federal Aviation Administration is going about regulating drones in the wrong way. Perritt and Sprague says that this is most clear in the agency’s treatment of small drones, the kind hobbyists and consumers can buy for a few hundred or thousand dollars. They write:
The crux of their argument is this: Rather than making anyone who buys a small drone comply with elaborate and complicated regulations, the compliance should instead be built in at the point of manufacture.
Lasers To Fight Drones
In the future, the United States might send military forces against a foe that uses flying robots. In this hypothetical future war, what’s the best way to shoot down enemy drones? Lasers, of course! Freaking. Lasers. The project, known as Ground Based Air Defense (GBAD) comes from the Office of Naval Research, and it’s been in the works for quite some time. The reason for using lasers is mundane: Lasers are cheaper than other ways to shoot things out of the sky, so they’re a perfect fit for the relatively inexpensive drones they’ll be fighting. On Wednesday, the Navy announced it had finished awarding contracts to develop this laser, which puts us one step closer to a war where Marines use lasers against chúng tôi future, man.

Assisting Firefighters
A volunteer firefighter team in Sheboygan, Wis., formed a volunteer drone squad. The “Sheboygan County Autonomous Search & Rescue Team” got its start after a firefighter acquired a cheap commercial quadcopter that can be piloted by smartphone. The drone carries a camera underneath, and with a flight time of about 20 minutes, it can give rescue workers an overhead view of a situation before they have to go in. Thermal imaging here is especially helpful, as infrared cameras see where the fire is before human eyes can.
Turn A Paper Airplane Into A Drone
With an app, a signal receiver and motor, and a piece of paper, it’s possible for anyone to make a simple drone in seconds. Thanks to a kit made by PowerUp3.0, the drone steers with a rudder behind the propeller. It’s one of the purest “just a toy” drones out there, and it looks like an utter delight to fly.
