Some LCD blur or ghosting issues result from electrical interference or faulty surge protectors. One of the most common causes of a blurry picture on a flat-screen LCD TV (or monitor) is a mismatch between the content’s resolution and the native resolution capability of the screen.
LCD, Mini-LED, microLED, Plasma, OLED, or QD-OLED all use different types of technology to make moving pictures. However, one thing they all have in common is a “native” resolution. This refers to the TV’s grid of physical pixels (picture elements). A 4K UHD TV has a pixel grid of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This is four times as many pixels as a Full HD TV at 1920×1080. So, for every pixel of information in a Full HD image source, the TV must fill four physical pixels’ worth of data.
There are various methods of “upscaling” lower-resolution images to high-resolution displays, and they all have varying levels of success. Going from FHD to UHD is straightforward since it involves making groups of four pixels act as a single pixel. Whenever the resolution of the source image divides evenly into the target screen’s resolution, you’ll get a softer image, but it will still look good.
If the source doesn’t divide perfectly into the target, you may get an ugly smeary result. Many of the fixes listed below can help to fix blurry or fuzzy upscaling results.3. Change Your Upscaling Settings (Or Your Upscaler)
Various TVs and set-top box devices offer different options regarding how they should scale lower-resolution sources to a higher-resolution screen. We can’t be very specific here because different devices and TVs have other names and menu systems. So you’re better off looking in your manual or online for anything to do with “upscaling” and your devices.
One important tip we can give you is to avoid having the TV itself do the upscaling. High-end televisions may have superior upscaling technology, but mid-range and low-end sets generally don’t have the processing power to upscale with good results.
Instead, if you’re using a connected device like a cable box, gaming console, Android TV, Apple TV, or another similar source, set its output resolution to match your TV’s native resolution. Any upscaling will happen on that device before it reaches the TV.4. Change Your Streaming Picture Quality Settings
If you are watching a streaming video source (such as the Netflix or Hulu app on a smart TV), then the fuzzy image may have nothing to do with your TV and everything to do with your bandwidth or quality settings.
Go to the picture settings of your streaming app of choice and set your quality and bandwidth usage preference. With some streaming apps (e.g., Disney Plus), you can select the preferred quality while watching your content. Change the quality setting from automatic to a setting that matches what your TV was designed to display.
Bear in mind that your internet connection may simply be too slow to stream at your TV’s sharpest quality. It may also take a few seconds for the stream to switch to the higher-quality mode. There are also different quality “bitrates” within each resolution tier. So although you may be streaming at (for example) 4K, if it’s at the lower end of the bitrate for that resolution, there can still be blurring, fuzziness, or other artifacts in the picture.5. Is the Source Digital or Analog?
HDMI is a digital image standard, ensuring you get the source’s quality without degradation. If you’re using an analog source, such as a DVD player connected using RCA connectors, there can be a significant amount of interference or signal loss based on several factors.
If at all possible, switch to HDMI instead. Returning to our DVD player example, some models provide HDMI output and have internal upscalers designed to make DVD footage look sharper on modern HDTVs.6. Try a Different HDMI Cable or Port
HDMI is digital, and usually, it works correctly or not at all. We have seen situations, though, where bad ports or cables can cause snow or other image artifacts. HDMI is built to have a certain level of digital error correction. However, if the amount of electrical interference or damage to a cable or port passes a threshold, it may degrade the image.
One fix for a blurry or fuzzy video is to switch out the HDMI cable or move it to another input on the TV to check if there might be something wrong with the cable or the port.7. Change The Sharpness Settings
Virtually all modern HDTVs offer a form of digital sharpening. This is usually listed under TV settings alongside contrast, brightness, etc. Use your TV remote control to access those menus, usually by first pressing the menu button.
Lowering the sharpness level will soften the image. It might be that your sharpness setting has softened things so much that the display looks blurry or fuzzy. The answer, of course, is to turn the sharpness up until you’re happy with the result.
Increasing the sharpness filter is also an effective way to deal with blurriness in the source footage. Still, there’s only so much that can be done before the image looks over-sharpened and unappealing.8. Turn On Blur-Reduction Features
Unlike CRT (cathode ray tube) TVs, all modern flat-screen TVs exhibit a type of motion blur known as sample-and-hold motion blur. In addition, lower-end TVs may have inherent blur as the individual pixels change their state too slowly.
Companies like Samsung and Sony have worked tirelessly to create new panel technologies to combat these issues. If you have an old TV, it may not benefit from the fast pixel response times more recent models can achieve.
As for motion blur caused by the sample-and-hold nature of flat panel technology, there are two main features you can activate to combat it. The first is motion smoothing, also known as frame interpolation. Different TV brands have other names, so you’ll have to look for something that refers to motion, smoothness, or do a web search for your TV model with the term “motion smoothing.”
This feature creates new frames from the existing frames in the video to offer liquid-smooth blur-free motion. This is the much-derided “soap opera effect,” but you may prefer the crispness of this mode for some content, such as HD sports broadcasts.
The second feature is something known as Black Frame Insertion (BFI). This inserts a black frame between every frame displayed on the screen. This makes the TV offer motion closer to a pulsed CRT display, thus defeating sample-and-hold blur. However, this comes at the cost of brightness and vibrancy. Newer TVs don’t suffer as much as older models, but either way, you can switch the feature on and decide which image you prefer.9. Turn Off Image Post-processing
Post-processing features are all of the things that the TV does to the image before displaying it. TV manufacturers have a “secret sauce” of algorithms that help make images look better, but too much post-processing can leave a soft and blurry image.
Turn off as many post-processing effects as possible, using your TV manual as a guide, and then experiment with the ones that offer the best picture without causing too much blur. Noise reduction may be one of the most important settings to adjust if you’re experiencing a snowy or speckled image.10. Get a Professional Assessment
If nothing you’ve tried above seems to resolve your fuzzy, blurry TV, it’s probably time to have a professional tech support person look at your TV. In some cases, it may be as simple as replacing a relatively inexpensive component. But if there’s something wrong with the core components of the TV, it’s often not worth the expense to replace those major parts. If your TV is still under warranty, you should refrain from letting anyone work on it, even if it is a minor problem. Instead, have it repaired and replaced under warranty.

During an episode of our podcast, I mentioned that I had overslept that morning due to my iPhone 11 Pro turning itself off overnight. It was positioned perfectly on a wireless charger, with plenty of battery left from the day before, and it had no water damage or any other notable hardware concerns. It simply turned itself off and wouldn’t turn back on.
As it turns out, this is just one of those things that sometimes happens to iPhone models X and newer. Luckily, after some stringent Googling, I could work out an easy fix for it. So I thought it would be helpful if I shared that fix (and some more) in case you’re ever unlucky enough to come across this weird bug.
How to fix an iPhone that won’t turn back on
Force restart your iPhone
Once you’ve confirmed your iPhone has at least some battery, and it won’t turn on with a simple press of the power button, go ahead and perform a force restart. We have a dedicated tutorial for all devices. If you have iPhone 8, X, or later, we have recapped the steps below:
Press the volume up button and release it quickly. This is more of a tap than a press-and-hold.
Do the same thing with the volume down button. Again, it’s just a quick press.
Press and hold the Power/Sleep button, and this time keep holding until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
The steps should be done rather quickly: press volume up, press volume down, and then press & hold the Power button. If you hold on to one of the volume buttons too long or don’t hold the power button long enough, it may not work.
Plug your iPhone into charging
If a force restart isn’t able to switch on your iPhone, plug it into charging for at least 15 to 30 minutes. Once the battery is adequately juiced up, try to switch on your iPhone normally or force restart it again.
Let the iPhone cool down
iPhone can heat up significantly if left on a wireless charger or a sunny day with maximum brightness, GPS, and many running apps. Once the internal temperature gets high enough, your iPhone becomes almost unusable or shuts down. You can turn it back on after it has cooled down.
Reset all iPhone settings
If your iPhone keeps turning off, reset all settings, and this should hopefully fix the problem.
Check for water damage
Your iPhone has a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) that is normally white or silver. But when it comes in contact with water, it turns red. Here’s how to determine if your iPhone is water damaged or not:
Set your device in bright light, and also make sure you have a flashlight handy.
Take out the SIM card tray and look inside.
If the LCI is red, water has gone inside your device, due to which it is performing inconsistently and turning off randomly or refusing to power on. Take it to an Apple Store to fix the problem.

Try DFU mode or full erase and set up
Once you have followed everything and the problem continues, put your iPhone in DFU mode (Device Firmware Update) and erase it. This will remove everything from your device and fix the software issues causing your iPhone to turn off and refuse to turn on. Before proceeding, make sure your back up your iPhone to iCloud or computer.

Note: If you can’t use DFU mode due to lack of technical skills or fast internet, take it to an Apple Store, and they should assist.
Finally, if nothing helps, book an appointment at your nearest Apple Store or Apple-authorized store and get your device inspected. They will inspect the iPhone and tell you the exact hardware problem related to the internals or the battery.

Hardware plays a significant role in DeX working properly. You must ensure that everything is working smoothly. For instance, if you are using a DeX station, make sure your phone is seated properly. If necessary, remove the phone and replace it.
If DeX isn’t working on your TV or monitor, try connecting it to a different device. There are chances that the monitor may not be compatible with DeX.4. Check USB Cable
For DeX connections via cable, ensure that the cable is securely plugged in. Remove and reconnect it. Also, try using the original cable that came with your phone and connect via a different port on your PC or monitor to get DeX working again.5. Connect to the Same Wi-Fi Network
If you are trying to use DeX wirelessly, ensure that your phone and the device that you are trying to connect (TV or PC) are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Tip: is your Wi-Fi connection slow around the house? These steps can help remedy the situation.6. Switch to a Different Wi-Fi Band
Some displays are not compatible with the 5GHz Wi-Fi band, so it would help if you switched to the 2.5 GHz network on both devices in Wi-Fi settings.7. Disable the Power-Saving Mode
When using DeX mode, you must turn off the power-saving mode on your phone.
Turn off the toggle next to “Power saving.”
Also, try to charge your phone before using DeX or keep it plugged in when connecting DeX.
If you are using a USB to HDMI hub, make sure to connect it to a power supply; otherwise, you will only be able to screen mirror and will not have full use of the capabilities of DeX.8. Turn Off VPN
DeX may not work properly if your phone or TV/PC is connected to a VPN. You must turn off your VPN, then try using DeX.9. Change USB Mode on the Phone
Whenever you connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable, you will see a USB options notification in the notification panel. Tap on this notification, then try resetting the connection by switching to “Charging phone only,” then back to “Transfer files.” This should fix the issue of DeX not working.10. Install, Open, or Restart the DeX App on PC
Unlike a TV, where you can use DeX without installing anything, you need to first download the DeX software to your Windows PC.
Next, make sure that the DeX app is open on your Windows PC when you are trying to use it. There’s a chance that your PC has closed the DeX app. If you don’t see the DeX app icon on the taskbar, open it.
However, if the DeX app is already running, restart the app by closing it and reopening it.

Typically, your Samsung phone will automatically switch to DeX mode when connected via a USB-C to HDMI adapter. If that doesn’t happen, enable DeX as shown below.
Press the “Start DeX” button. Also, enable the toggle next to “Auto start when HDMI is connected.” This will automatically start DeX mode when you connect an HDMI cable.13. Select Right Connection Mode
On OneUI 5 and above, both your PC and TV/monitor will show up in the list of available devices under the “Connect wirelessly” section.
On the earlier versions of OneUI, Samsung offers two separate modes for connecting DeX: “DeX on TV” (or monitor) and “DeX on PC.” You must select the proper mode when connecting DeX.14. Select Samsung DeX from Notification Panel
After connecting DeX, if your TV or monitor starts mirroring your phone instead of switching to DeX, you must tap on the Samsung DeX notification in the notification panel followed by Samsung DeX. That’s it. Samsung DeX mode will instantly launch on the connected device.
Pro Tip: on some phones, you may need to search for HDMI mode settings and switch to DeX from mirroring.
If you are able to connect your phone to your PC wirelessly, but the USB mode doesn’t work, you must update the USB drivers on your Windows PC. The issue with Samsung DeX not working could be happening due to outdated drivers.
Connect your phone and PC via the USB cable.16. Clear Cache and Data of DeX App on Your Phone
As with everything, you must try the golden trick of clearing the cache and data of all the DeX-related apps on your Samsung Galaxy phone to fix DeX not working.
Open Settings on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
Go to “Apps.”
Tap on the Sort and Filter icon and enable the toggle next to “Show system apps.” Press the “OK” button.
Type “DeX” in the search at the top, then select each item that shows, one by one.
Go to “Storage” and press “Clear cache,” followed by the “Clear data” button. Repeat this for other DeX-related apps that you find in step #4.

When the Dock does not work, both the display and USB port fails to respond, and the green LED on the corner does not light up. Although it may seem like the faulty power cable is to blame, we cannot rule out other possible causes like HDMI issues, the device being low on power or the device being in an error state.
There could be a slew of fixes. Checking the green LED is the easiest method. This indicates whether or not the device is receiving power. If the device receives power, the problem is most likely with its firmware or ports. And you might want to start by repairing those components. However, depending on what caused the issue, there may be more than one solution.
When a Nintendo Switch Dock stops working, there are two things that could have happened. Whether the device is not getting power or there could be other technical issues.
The device usually faces power issues due to a faulty power adapter or the port itself. On the other hand, technical issues could be anything from a defective display cable to a damaged dock.

First, restart both the Dock and the Switch and connect the two. Now check the Switch dock for a green LED.
If the LED is on, the issue is likely with the ports or configurations. If the LED does not turn on, remove and reconnect all the cables that go into your Dock.
If that does not work, you might want to power cycle the Switch.
Any parts inside a hardware component need to interact with each other to function. If a system or a device enters a deadlock situation where components cannot interact with each other, the entire device may not work.
This is where power cycling a device comes in. Power cycling a device frees it from all remaining charges which removes any configuration stored. This in turn returns the device to its base state or a stable state, fixing any errors or bugs causing the malfunction.
To power cycle the Switch,
Remove the Switch from the Dock.
Now plug everything back, connect the Switch to the Dock, and turn it on.
If power cycling does not work, you may need to insert the cables in the correct order before turning on the Switch.
Sometimes, the Switch dock only works when you insert cables in the correct order. Users in many Q&A forums have reported that connecting the power to the Dock solved the issue. Power issues may stop the ports from being detected when you connect them before the power supply.
It could also simply be a bug in Nintendo Switch. Nevertheless, here is how you need to connect the cables in Nintendo Switch.

Connect another end of HDMI to the display device.

Furthermore, you may also have issues getting any display on your monitor if the HDMI port version on the Dock does not match the HDMI cable’s version. Therefore, make sure that you are using the correct HDMI type.
Try using a different HDMI cable, one that matches the HDMI version and is not faulty, to connect the Dock to the display source to see if it fixes the issue.
Another reason the Switch dock does not seem to be working is if the display device is taking a different source as input. You will find several input ports on your display device. Therefore, you can select the input source from which the monitor takes input.
You need to make sure that the currently selected source on your display device is the one to which Switch is connected.
If you are on a TV, navigate through display settings and set the correct Source. On a monitor, however, you will need to navigate settings using the side buttons.
Note: Depending on the monitor or TV, you will need to navigate through the display configuration to find the correct settings.
Dust and debris on your display ports could be obstructing data transfer between the Switch and the display device. If this happens, the output screen will not display anything, making it seem like the Switch Dock is faulty.
Try cleaning both the ports on the Dock and the display device using a can of compressed air. Make sure that both the ports and the cables are clean before inserting them.
When you connect the Dock to a screen, the green light on the Dock will turn on. If this light fails to turn on, there is a high chance that it is not getting power or the battery draining fast and taking long time to charge. In that case, try using a different cable to power Switch Dock.
If the second power cable still does not work, it could be that the Dock itself is at fault.
If none of the solutions works, you can try using a separate dock to determine where the problem lies. If you still do not get anything on the screen after connecting the Switch to a different Dock, there is a high chance that the connector that joins the Switch to the Dock is faulty.
