4 solutions to fix Windows 10 D-Link software issues

Those users who utilize D-Link modems have stated that a “This app has been blocked for your protection” User Account Control error message pops up when they try to run the D-Link Connection Manager software.

As a result, those users can’t connect to the net with D-Link modems. However, some users have fixed the issue. These are a few resolutions for fixing blocked D-Link software.

How to Fix Blocked D-Link Software 1. Activate Windows 10’s Built-in User Account

Windows started blocking D-Link software after the discovery of private keys within D-Link firmware.

Consequently, Windows 10’s built-in admin account blocks D-Link modem software running, which also blocks the net connections. In addition, Win 10 blocks users installing the software.

Some users have confirmed that they’ve fixed the issue by enabling Windows 10’s admin account. That’s the built-in admin account that blocks the software. Users can activate Win 10’s built-in admin account as follows.

First, press the Windows key + Q hotkey, which opens Cortana.

Input ‘Command Prompt’ in the search box.

Then enter ‘net user administrator /active:yes’ in the prompt as shown directly below, and press the Return key.

Close the Command Prompt, and restart Windows.

Then log in to the new Administrator account you’ll see on the login screen.

2. Run the D-Link Software With the Command Prompt

Expert tip:

First, find the path for the D-Link software required for the router connection, which might be D-Link Connection Manager. To do that, enter some D-Link keywords in Cortana’s search box.

Open the Win + X menu with its Windows key + X keyboard shortcut.

Enter ‘cd [D-Link Connection Manager software path]’ in the Command Prompt, and press the Return key. For example, some users might need to enter something like: cd C:Programs Files(x86)D-Link Connection Manager.

Enter the exact exe file name for the D-Link software in the Command Prompt (with exe extension included) and press Return to run the software. The exe file for the D-Link software will be in the software’s folder.

With the D-Link software running, users can then browse websites.

3. Turn Off User Account Control With Group Policy Editor

Another way some users can fix blocked D-Link modem software is to turn off User Account Control with Group Policy Editor in Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise. Users can do that by disabling the Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode policy. Follow the guidelines below to turn off that policy.

Press the Windows key + R to launch Run.

Select the Disabled radio button, and select the Apply option.

Then press the OK button.

Then restart the desktop or laptop.

4. Set up a Cellular Connection

Users can also set up a cellular connection for D-Link modems without the D-Link application manager on PCs that incorporate SIM cards. To do that in Windows 10, enter ‘network’ in the Cortana search box.

Then select an available network, and press the Advanced options button.

Select the Add an Internet APN connection.

Then enter the required details for the APN profile.

Press the Save button.

Thereafter, select the Connect automatically option for the selected cellular network.

So, that’s how users can unblock D-Link software in Windows 10. Then D-Link users can browse websites with their restored connections.

Microsoft always gives the latest update for the sake of features and security, especially for a next-gen console like Xbox Series X&S.

However, several users have reported that they’ve been stuck in updating Microsoft Store on their Xbox consoles. The problem varies, but the main takeaway is the Store always tells them to update. Then, once they did, it would tell them to do another update.

For users that have been stuck in this endless cycle of nonsense, it can get quite irritating. As a matter of fact, this particular problem has been around since Xbox One was a hot console in the market, and the size of these updates isn’t small either (over 100 MB).

Some have even reported the issue to Microsoft through the Feedback hub, but the problem still seems to persist to them.

So, how do we fix it? Or, is there any possible workaround we can try?

What can I do if my Microsoft Store on Xbox keeps updating?

Microsoft hasn’t officially announced anything that may cause this bug, but it seems like the problem arrives at the most random time to the most random user.

However, here are some of the workarounds you can try.

1. Restarting the console

1. Press and hold the Xbox button in the center of your Xbox controller to open the Power Center.

2. Select Restart console.

2. Performing hard reset

1. Hold the power button for 10 seconds until it’s off.

2. Wait for another 30 seconds

3. Press the Xbox button to switch it on again

3. Nudging

1. With the update prompt on, press Start, then Pause it.

2. Press and hold the Xbox button in the center of your Xbox controller to open the Power Center.

3. Select Restart console ➜ Restart.

4. Resume the update to nudge it into fully updating.

4. Continue without updating

1. With the update prompt on, press Cancel.

2. It takes you to the store without the update, although there’s a chance that the annoying pop-up may come back.

There are many other errors that plague Xbox consoles, including the unavoidable black screen for some Xbox One users. Make sure to follow our Xbox-dedicated page to find the easiest & clearest fixes of any Xbox problem.

What Isand Do You Need It?

While certain elements of the Windows operating system (such as the system kernel) are vital for it to work, other parts are less important. If you’re trying to lower your system resources, you may wish to consider disabling some unnecessary system services and processes, although you’ll need to understand them first.

One fairly simple-to-understand process is chúng tôi As the name suggests, chúng tôi (or chúng tôi is a component of Windows 10’s search features—in particular, the search tool that was originally part of the Cortana personal assistant. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Table of Contents

What Is chúng tôi (or chúng tôi and Should You Disable It?

chúng tôi is the process that allows the search bar on your taskbar to work. chúng tôi was previously combined with Cortana, the Windows 10 personal assistant, but was removed from Cortana in the Windows 19 19H1 update in April 2023 and renamed chúng tôi to distinguish it from other components.

As it stands now, chúng tôi is a typically low-resource process that sits in the background. It uses some resources, however, to ensure that when you press the search bar in the bottom left, the search menu appears almost instantly, allowing you to search your PC or the web, open certain apps, or change your PC settings.

This is a very basic search tool that relies on other processes (such as the Windows Search Indexer) to manage file indexing or web searches, allowing Windows to quickly pull up files and installed apps when you search for them. As a Windows system process, chúng tôi (or chúng tôi is entirely safe to run and use.

How to Hide the Search Bar on Windows 10

Before you consider disabling chúng tôi (or chúng tôi on Windows, you may prefer to hide the search bar instead. This ensures that Windows’ search features remain active and available, but the search bar itself is hidden. The chúng tôi (or chúng tôi process will remain paused but enabled.

How to Manually Stop the Windows 10 Search Bar Process

The Windows 10 search bar (SearchApp.exe or chúng tôi is always running on your PC, even if you hide the search bar from view. Should it become unstable at any point, however, you’ll need to stop the process and restart it.

For instance, if the search menu itself repeatedly freezes, you may need to end the process to fix the problem. You can do this using Windows Task Manager or by using  Windows PowerShell.

Using Task Manager

Task Manager will ask you to confirm that you want to stop the process—select End process to do this.

Once you’ve ended the running process, select the search bar again. Windows will reopen the chúng tôi (or chúng tôi process, restoring the search bar’s functions.

Using Windows PowerShell

Another way to quickly disable a broken search bar process on Windows 10 is to use the Windows PowerShell.

In the new PowerShell window, type taskkill /f /im chúng tôi (if your version of Windows uses the chúng tôi process) or taskkill /f /im chúng tôi (if your version of Windows uses SearchApp.exe), then select the Enter key on your keyboard.

Running the taskkill command will end the search bar process. To restore it, select the search bar—Windows will restart the process automatically.

How to Disable chúng tôi or chúng tôi on Windows 10

The steps above should help you to hide or stop the running search bar process—but only temporarily. If you want to stop chúng tôi or chúng tôi from running, you’ll need to use the Windows PowerShell to take ownership of and then rename the executable file to stop it running.

Disabling the Search Bar Process

With the chúng tôi (or chúng tôi process stopped and renamed, the search bar will no longer function. You’ll need to follow the steps above to enter the correct folder, then type mv chúng tôi chúng tôi or mv chúng tôi chúng tôi depending on your version of Windows.

Running these commands will stop Windows from opening the search bar process—in effect, disabling it completely. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible (at present) to remove the app using Windows PowerShell or other tools, so this remains the best method for stopping it from working on your PC.

Resolving Search Issues on Windows 10

If you prefer to use the Windows search bar to search your PC or the web, you’ll need to leave the chúng tôi process running on your PC. If you’d prefer to limit the amount of data Microsoft records on you, however, it may be best to disable it fully using the methods listed above.

Twitter Is Hiring – Here’s What Candidates Can Expect

Twitter is officially hiring again, in the wake of a series of layoffs that has dropped the company from 7,500 employees to around 2,700.

CEO Elon Musk announced that sales and engineering positions are now open in an all-hands meeting today. Twitter recruiters have been reaching out to potential employees since last week, reports show.

Do you have what it takes to work at the company? Going by past precedent, you’ll have to be okay with your company making headlines about five times a day. But that’s just the start. Here’s what to know about the ins and outs of Twitter’s company culture at the moment.

1. Be Hardcore

One wave of layoffs was triggered last week by an ultimatum from Musk, the not-so-behind-the-scenes billionare pulling the social platform’s strings. Anyone who wasn’t willing to be “hardcore” in the immediate future was shown the door.

“This will mean working long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.” ~Musk

This ultimatum led to hundreds more workers leaving. But it’s a bit of a rorschach test: Do you take Musk’s word at face value, seeing a straight shooter whose earned his billions through hard work and willpower? If so, joining Twitter is the opportunity to make your mark as well.

But perhaps your boss telling you to be more hardcore just reminds you of other, less wealthy bosses hoping to compensate for their poor work ethic by squeezing more work out of their employees.

2. No Free Lunches

And don’t expect to be hardcore with a full stomach on the company’s dime: One of Musk’s cost-cutting measures was getting rid of lunches.

Musk holds that providing food for employees cost $400 per lunch (a former employee estimates this cost to be $20-25 per person). Now, employees will have to work through lunches and meetings without the perk encouraging them.

But don’t worry. For every carrot that Twitter has recently removed, it has added a stick: In-office attendance is now mandatory.

3. No Working From Home

Another change: Workers are now expected to work a minimum of 40 hours a week at the company’s physical offices.

Remote work has been normalized in the past few years thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, but not everyone’s happy about it. Some managers cite the arguable benefits of connections and conversation that can only happen naturally when everyone’s physically present. Critics argue that businesses are just trying to justify real estate deals, or that managers want to indulge their worst micromanagement tendencies.

Whatever the case, Twitter’s zero-tolerance policy is another change that makes working at the organization appear to be more of a chore, and will shape the culture by defacto filtering out anyone without the flexibility or ability to turn up for 40 hours a week.

But if they’re really hardcore, they’ll be working 80 hours a week, so that’s kinda like working from home half the time when you think about it.

If you’d rather work from home, here are some companies that will let you do just that.

4. You Might Get Fired at a Moment’s Notice

Finally, you may want to keep your mouth shut around your boss. Musk can accept some disagreement, but won’t want anyone challenging his overall worldview,  judging from the outcome of one engineer who critiqued his coding knowledge. You guessed it, he was fired, right in between two waves of layoffs. New employees should plan to deal with the same.

That’s another potential problem for Twitter moving forwards: New employee retention. Takeovers and acquisitions are tough in the best of times — studies show that a stunning 70 and 90 percent of acquisitions fail.

If Musk plans to earn enough to justify the billion-a-year debt he’s now in just to keep Twitter going, he has a lot of work ahead of him, and he needs a lot of hardcore employees with their own lunches to do it for him.
