Microsoft might have announced the launch of its Windows 10 October 2023 Update during the just concluded Surface event but the update process has already run into issues. No wonder, the company’s support forum has already been flooded with complaints about how the update tends to stop midway and just hangs on there with no progress thereafter.

With that being the case, here are a few things you can do in the unfortunate scenario if you are facing the same.

However, before we start, we also have to keep in mind updates like these can be heavy. As such, downloading all the files can take a toll on performance, especially if the device isn’t able to spare enough memory. In that case, it would be best to wait until the installation is complete.

However, if you feel it’s taking too long for your comfort, here are some things that you might try.

Steps to fix Windows 10 v1809 install bugs

Before we dive in into general fixes, here’s a fix that you can use if you own an Intel-powered device. As Intel explains, the Windows 10 October 2023 Update may be blocked due Intel Display Audio Driver issues.

A fix for these issues is already included in Intel Display Audio Driver version 10.25.0.10, which is bundled with Intel Graphics Driver version 24.20.100.6286 and newer. Intel strongly recommends that all users with 6th Generation (codenamed Skylake) or newer processors confirm that Intel Graphics Driver version 24.20.100.6286 or newer is installed on their computers before attempting to update to Windows 10 October 2023 Update.

Solution 1- Disconnect the internet

Be it a Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection, just shut out the connection. You can also invoke the Airplane mode from the Action Center to cut out internet connection. Next, check to see if there is any progress in the update process.

Solution 2 – Restart the device

Re-establish the internet connection again and restart your PC. Check if things progress. If the issue persists, go to the next solution.

Solution 3 – Run the Update Troubleshooter

Select Troubleshoot from the options on the left.

From the option on the left, select Windows Update.

Select Run the Troubleshooter and follow on-screen instructions.

Re-start your PC and check if this solves the problem.

It is recommended to run the Troubleshooter at least three times if the issue isn’t resolved in the initial steps.

Solution 4 – Check the SoftwareDistribution folder

Type all the commands listed below and press Enter.

taskkill /f /fi “SERVICES eq wuauserv” (Do this multiple times)

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

rmdir C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDataStore

rmdir C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload

Re-start your PC and see if the download resumes again.

Solution 5 – Reset Windows Update components

Open Command Prompt again as before. Run the commands mentioned below and hit Enter.

Net Stop bits

Net Stop wuauserv

Net Stop appidsvc

Net Stop cryptsvc

Ren %systemroot%SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak

Ren %systemroot%system32catroot2 catroot2.bak

Net Start bits

Net Start wuauserv

Net Start appidsvc

Net Start cryptsvc

Check if the update is progressing.

However, in the unlikely scenario of the update yet being stalled, you can try and upgrade manually. For more information on how to install the Windows 10 October 2023 update, you can check out this guide.

Pokemon Go October 2023

Pokemon GO October 2023 – Halloween revealed!

If this October’s Pokmone GO Community Day wasn’t ghostly enough for you, this week’s launch into Halloween should provide the necessary scares. As is generally the case, Pokemon GO’s most exciting month is the first month they ever revealed an event: October! This month’s Halloween-themed antics play out on October 12 with Gastly Spotlight Hour, then from October 15th forward – it’s going to be spooky to the max!

First, Gastly Spotlight Hour should be the best time to grab all the Ghost-type Pokemon you can handle. This mini-event will take place on Tuesday, October 12, starting at 6PM local time. This Spotlight Hour lasts – you guessed it – one hour, and will deliver “twice the Stardust for catching Pokemon.”

Every Wednesday of the week this month we’ll see a Raid Hour at 6PM. On the 13th we’ll see Altered Forme Giratina appearing in large numbers. That same Pokemon will be featured during the October 20th Raid Hour. The most exciting Raid Hour of the month comes on October 27, 2023, where the featured Pokemon will be Darkrai with exclusive move Sludge Bomb!

SHINY Darkrai with this exclusive move will also be appearing from Friday, October 22 at 10AM all the way to November 5, 2023 at 10AM local time. This is the sort of situation where Niantic says “If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!” – which means there’s a PRETTY good chance that’ll happen.

Niantic said the same thing about Shiny Altered Forme Giratina, appearing in raids from October 12 to October 22, 2023. The only super monster boss of the non-Mega Raids this month that will NOT be Shiny is Genesect!

Courtesy of the latest image release from Niantic (as seen above), Pokemon GO Halloween 2023 will feature Punkaboo, released in Pokemon GO for the first time! This Pokemon evolves into Gourgeist – and both of these Pokemon look like pumpkins!

As previously leaked and reported, another Pumpkin-like Pokemon (or more tree-like, as it were), that’ll appear at this Halloween event is Phantump! This is also the debut of this Pokemon in Pokemon GO. This Pokemon evolves into Trevenant!

Several Event Pokemon (with fancy Halloween costumes) will appear during the Halloween event’s full span. This includes a fancy hat Pikachu, Fancy Hat Drifblim, and fancy hat Piplup! As it’s been in the most recent years of events, these fancy dress-up Pokemon will not be able to evolve.

These fancy Pokemon and the first appearances of the Pokemon Phantump, Trevenant, Punkaboo, and Gourgeist will will begin to appear on Friday, October 15, 2023. They’ll continue to appear all the way until October 31, 2023 – and likely a few hours beyond the end of said day, depending on where you live!

On October 19th we’ll get a 6PM Spotlight Hour for Gothita. That event will deliver 2x XP for catching Pokemon. The last Spotlight Hour of the month is the absolute worst: Murkrow! Starting at 6PM on October 26th, you’ll also get 2x XP for evolving Pokemon.

How To Install Windows 10 November 2023 (21H2) Update Right Now

After the release of Windows 11, Microsoft has moved to a yearly update cycle for Windows 10. However, before that change goes into effect next year, it has released the Windows 11 November 2023 (21H2) update to users. If you are running Windows 10, you can update to the latest Windows 10 November 2023 build right away. Generally, Microsoft rolls out major updates in a phased manner, and it might take some time before the update reaches your PC. So if you want to jump the line and try out the latest Windows 10 21H2 update right now, follow the instructions below. We have included two methods to install the Windows 10 November 2023 update on your PC.

In this article, we have mentioned two ways to install the Windows 10 21H2 build on your PC. Based on your expertise, you can move to the desired section from the table below. Also, we have listed all the new features in Windows 10 November 2023 build. So without further ado, let’s dive right in!

The Windows 10 November 2023 release is a feature update, but there are not many user-facing additions to this build. Except for the fact that you get WPA3 H2E standard support for better security while connecting to a Wi-Fi network. WPA3 brings enhanced security than the traditional WPA2 security protocol used on routers, even when you are using a simple password for your Wi-Fi.

Apart from that, users who are on Windows 10 version 2004 or later will be able to install the November update much faster. Besides that, Microsoft has mentioned these changes in its official blog post.

Adding WPA3 H2E standards support for enhanced Wi-Fi security

Faster update installation for users who are on Windows 10, version 2004 or later

Windows Hello for Business introduces a new deployment method called cloud trust to support simplified passwordless deployments and achieve a deploy-to-run state within a few minutes

GPU compute support in the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows (EFLOW) deployments for machine learning and other compute intensive workflows

1. Open the Settings page using the Windows 11 keyboard shortcut “Windows + I”. Then, move to “Update & Security“.

That’s it. After downloading the update, restart your PC, and you will move to Windows 10 November 2023 build. If you have not gotten the 21H2 update yet, move to the next section.

The easiest way to update your PC to the latest Windows 10 21H2 build is through the official Windows Update Assistant. You don’t need to create any bootable USB or worry about wiping data. This method installs the update over your existing Windows 10 build and keeps files and programs intact. Here is how you go about it.

4. Finally, the Update Assistant will start downloading the Windows 10 21H2 build on your PC.

5. Post that, it will automatically install the update and ask you to restart the PC. Now, you will be upgraded to the Windows 10 November 2023 build without much effort.

Install Windows 10 (21H2) November 2023 Build With Bootable USB

4. After downloading the ISO image of the Windows 10 November 2023 build, go ahead and download Rufus (Free). It’s a free utility that allows you to create a USB bootable drive. In case you find Rufus needlessly complex, check out other Rufus alternatives from this curated list.

7. To install Windows 10 November 2023 build from a USB drive, you need to restart your computer. As your PC boots up, you will need to start pressing the boot key continuously.

Note: On HP laptops, pressing the “Esc” key during startup brings up the Startup menu. For other laptops and desktops, you will have to look for the boot key on the Internet. It should be one of these: F12, F9, F10, etc.

8. Then, press “F9” (the key can be different for your laptop/ desktop) to open “Boot Device Options”. Here, select the thumb drive that you created and hit Enter.

10. On the next page, choose “I don’t have a product key“.

11. After that, you might be asked to select the Windows 10 edition. If you are using a laptop with activated Windows, the edition will be selected automatically based on your earlier configuration.

14. Finally, Windows 10 November 2023 build will be installed from the USB drive to your PC.

15. After the installation, your PC will reboot automatically. During the bootup process, remove the USB thumb drive, and you will boot into Windows 10 November 2023 build. Enjoy!

Disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization In Windows 10

Windows Update Delivery Optimization (WUDO) is designed to help Windows users get the Windows store apps and other Windows updates more quickly and efficiently – even if you have an unreliable Internet connection.

The WUDO feature is enabled by default in all Windows 10 systems except the Enterprise versions. When enabled, all the Windows updates are shared among all the PCs in the same network. This helps save your Internet bandwidth, as every PC in your network will be sharing the updates among them rather than downloading the updates separately from Microsoft servers.

Along with sharing and downloading the updates and apps over the local networks, the WUDO feature also shares them with other PCs over the Internet. Simply put, this new feature is much like a torrent and uses your bandwidth to share the updates with other PCs over the Internet.

According to Microsoft, the WUDO feature has very little impact on your Internet connection. Moreover, when downloading the Windows updates from other PCs, Windows checks for the integrity of those files as if they are downloaded directly from the Microsoft servers. If there are any changes or inconsistencies in the files, Windows stops downloading from the target PC and checks for another source, be it another PC on the Internet or the Microsoft server.

This is all good and well, but if you are on a limited or metered Internet connection, then keeping this feature enabled may not be an option for you unless you want to pay hefty bills in the name of the Internet. So it is a good thing to either configure or disable the feature so that it won’t waste your bandwidth.

Customize or Disable the WUDO Feature

As I said before, the WUDO feature is enabled by default and is also configured to download and share updates with PCs on the local network and on the Internet.

If you want to completely disable the WUDO feature, toggle the button to “Off,” and you are good to go.

However, if you just want to share the updates among the PCs in your local network, then select the “PCs on my local network” option.

This action ensures that the updates are only shared with PCs on your local network and not with PCs on the internet.
