To get AV1 support on Windows, simply head to the official Microsoft store and download the official AV1 extension.

To test to see if the extension is working, simply download a video that has been encoded with the AV1 codec. It should open and play in the Windows Movies & TV app. You can find videos to test the playback on Elecard’s website. You’ll also be able to play back AV1 encoded videos with Microsoft Edge after downloading this extension.

Linux and macOS

Finding a system-wide solution for AV1 video playback on Linux and macOS isn’t as clearcut as it is with Windows. However, there are solutions. VLC, the versatile media player, supports AV1 playback. You just have to install VLC and use it to play your AV1 videos.

In addition, Firefox also supports AV1 playback. To confirm that AV1 playback is enabled:

How To Get Macos Monterey Universal Control Feature On Windows And Linux

At the WWDC 2023 event, Apple dazzled everyone with the SharePlay and Universal Control features on the newly-released macOS Monterey beta. Apple showcased how you can use a single keyboard and mouse to control other macOS and iPadOS devices. That said, the technology has been there for a while, and apps like Synergy and Barrier have been doing this for many years. Nevertheless, if you want to learn how to get the macOS Monterey Universal Control feature on Windows, Linux, and older versions of macOS, this guide will help you set it up in a few simple steps. So without further ado, let’s dive right in.

Get macOS Monterey’s Universal Control Feature on Windows and Linux (2023)

In this tutorial, we are going to use Barrier, an open-source application, which allows you to share your mouse and keyboard between Windows, Linux, and macOS devices. Its functionality is similar to the Universal Control feature on macOS Monterey. The best part is that Barrier is completely free to use and also offers clipboard sharing and keyboard shortcuts. Synergy is also an excellent alternative, but it’s a paid application ($29).

For this feature to work, remember that both your participating devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Also, in this guide, I am demonstrating the steps using a Mac and Windows 10 PC, but the steps are identical for Linux too. As for the installation steps for Linux, I will mention them at the bottom. So here is how to go about it.

1. First and foremost, open the GitHub page of Barrier and download the latest DMG file.

2. Next, open the DMG file, and you will find the Barrier application. Copy it and paste it into the “Applications” directory.

3. Now, open the Barrier application, and you will get a security prompt.

1. On Windows, the installation process is pretty straightforward. Open the GitHub page of Barrier and download the latest EXE file.

The feature isn’t exactly new but it is one that is overlooked and allows you to bring low volume and high volume levels closer together. This saves you having to turn up the volume when something is too quiet, only to turn it down again when things get too loud.

There are two ways to enable this feature on Windows 11 though they also work on Windows 10.

First, open Settings by pressing Windows Key + I.

This will open a new window where you will need to place a tick in the Loudness Equalization checkbox.

If you’d rather use the Control Panel (don’t blame you) to make this change you can also still do that. At least at the time of writing.

This will open a new window where you will need to find and select the audio device you want to enable volume levelling on.

As soon as you make the change that particular device will now bring volume levels a little closer together and prevent you from having extreme lows and extreme highs. Just keep in mind that you will have to make this change on each of the sound devices that you use on your computer. It doesn’t apply system-wide which is good because you may not want to use it while you are using your 7.1 channel surround system but do while you have headphones on.

Another really good new feature that has been added to Windows 11 is Live Captions. This puts subtitles on the screen for any and all audio being played on your device, which includes microphones.

If you are using Microsoft Edge and would like to enable Video Super Resolution to automatically upscale videos. This article will show you how to enable the feature which is currently still in its early testing phase. Keep in mind being so early you may encounter some issues with Edge VSR so be prepared for a mixed experience.

Video Super resolution (VSR) is a fantastic feature that allows videos to be upscaled using machine learning and AI with minimal resource costs. If you’ve been around a while you’ve probably heard of NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR which are both video upscaling features used in video games to dramatically improve image quality and performance. VSR in Microsoft Edge aims to bring the same quality increases to video playback.

As well as improving image quality VSR also aims to reduce the bandwidth required to stream videos to your PC. To do this Microsoft is using an AI upscaler to do the work and will focus on removing blocky compression artefacts to improve image quality. Unlike Nvidia’s RTX Super Resolution, which does not have any resolution limitations (you could go 360p to 4k if you wanted). Microsoft’s VSR will only upscale video to 720p. Your device also needs to be plugged in and have a compatible graphics card. Here’s where things get a bit extreme.

The hardware requirement is also fairly high with RTX 20 series and Radeon RX 5700 series GPUs (or newer) being the only GPUs supported so far. Which leaves most laptops and older devices without any support for VSR.

Still want to enable Video Super Resolution in Microsoft Edge? At this stage, Video Super Resolution (VSR) is only available in Microsoft Edge Canary version 112.0.1709.0 or newer so you will need to make sure you are using the latest version of Edge (Canary) to enable it. Once you have updated Edge Canary or installed it on your system you will need to run through the following steps to enable the new video upscaling feature. Keep in mind the feature is still entirely experimental so it may not work as well as you are hoping.

How do you enable Video Super Resolution (VSR) in Microsoft Edge? Enable Video Upscaling in Microsoft Edge.

In order to start using Video Super Resolution in Microsoft Edge, you will need to do the following. Again make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary installed.

Open Microsoft Edge and enter edge://flags into the address bar and press enter.

On the next page use the search box to search Super Resolution.

This will bring up an option called Microsoft Video Super Resolution highlighted in yellow.

Now use the drop-down menu on the right to change the setting from Default to Enabled.

Finally, Restart your browser and the change will take effect.

How To Enable Enhanced Search Mode In Windows 10

You’ll only see two options: the Classic and the Enhanced option. Once you choose the Enhanced option, the indexing will start, but it will be a one-time thing.

When you start searching for something immediately, you won’t see the supplementary files come up since it will take about fifteen minutes to see them. If you have a considerable amount of files, don’t be surprised if the process takes longer. If you’re on your laptop’s battery, make sure it isn’t low since you don’t want your battery to run out while your computer is indexing.

How to Turn Off Windows Search Enhanced Mode

If you try and and come to the conclusion that it’s just not for you, you can always turn it off. Repeat the steps you followed earlier. When you get to the Find My Files section, select the Classic option. Once you choose this option, things will go back to the way they were.

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services around. Depending on how you watch Netflix on your PC, you may have performance issues. Everything from whether you use a wireless connection to your Internet speeds to your window size can make a difference in having the best picture quality possible when streaming. This guide will give you some tips on how to optimize Netflix playback on your PC.

1. Wired vs. wireless

Whenever possible, connecting your PC to a wired Internet connection will always offer the best Netflix playback. Wired connections can get up to 100 Mbps depending on your ISP, modem and/or router configuration. Wireless connections, however, can be fickle depending on the weather and interference, and often have performance issues. The wired versus wireless scenario can vastly change the quality of streaming in Netflix.

2. Testing your Internet speed, contacting your ISP

Netflix automatically adjusts playback based on your Internet speed. If you have two computers in your home, depending on the circumstances, one could have better playback than the other. If you notice the picture in particular beginning to degrade as you are streaming, it is possible your Internet speed has slowed below what is required for optimal playback.

Netflix has recommended the following speeds for certain aspects of playback:

1 MB/s: Streaming on a laptop

2 MB/s: Streaming on a standard definition television

4 MB/s: Streaming in HD

5 MB/s: Optimal audio and video streaming

If you are using a lot of programs, playing games or doing other things while trying to stream, this can impact the quality of playback from Netflix. Ideally, you want to run the bare minimum when streaming Netflix, especially if you want to use full screen mode to watch a program.


There is no catchall solution for fixing Netflix streaming performance that will work on all PCs. It takes some time to find the right setup, but these five tips can help optimize your Netflix playback on your PC.
