Suggested December 2023 How To Stop Automatic Picture
Picture in Picture (PiP) is handy and lets you continue watching a video even when you go out of the app. But there can be some inconveniences, and you might want to stop videos from playing automatically in PiP.
In this tutorial, we discuss the problem with Picture in Picture and how to stop it from kicking in automatically on your iPhone or iPad.
How to stop videos from automatically playing in Picture in Picture
Open iPhone or iPad Settings app.
Select General.
Tap Picture in Picture.
Turn off Start PiP Automatically.
From now on, whenever you swipe up from the bottom of the screen or press the Home button to exit a video app, the video won’t continue playing in a small floating PiP window. Depending on the app or website, the video will stop playing or play in audio mode.
The Picture in Picture problem in iOSAfter you turn off “Start PiP Automatically,” when you play a video inside Apple apps like Apple TV or Safari, you will see the Picture in Picture button. Simply tap it, and the video starts playing in a small floating window. You can leave the app, and the video will keep playing.
If you don’t want the video to play in Picture in Picture, don’t tap the PiP button. Simple as that. You have the desired choice. The problem starts with third-party apps.
YouTubeI’m a YouTube Premium member, so I get the (experimental) Picture in Picture privilege. Now, unlike Safari or the Apple TV app, there is no PiP button on the video playing screen of the YouTube app to enable Picture in Picture. So, the only way to use Picture in Picture in the YouTube app is by enabling the option to start PiP automatically on the system level. However, enabling that option also means that from now on, whenever I swipe up (or press the Home button) and go out of the app, that video will continue to play in the Picture in Picture window. I don’t have the choice to not use PiP when desired.
Jio TVJio TV is an extremely popular app in my country that lets me watch hundreds of TV channels, sports, movies, etc. Now, even in this app, there is no PiP button on the video playing screen. The only way to enter Picture in Picture in this app is to enable the system-wide setting to start PiP automatically. After that, when I exit the Jio TV app, the video continues to play in PiP mode.
After turning off Start PiP Automatically, some apps like YouTube keep the audio on when you exit the app. But many, like Jio TV, even stop the audio. So, it’s messed up. I have had the same experience with several other video apps.
In short, you have two options:
Enable “Start PiP Automatically”: After this, every playing video in almost all apps will start playing in a floating PiP window when you swipe up or press the Home button to exit that app.
Turn off “Start PiP Automatically”: After this, in some apps like Apple TV and Safari, you can still use the PiP button on the video screen to enter Picture in Picture when desired. But in many other third-party apps like YouTube, you can’t use Picture in Picture at all (unless they have a PiP button on the video player).
You can decide which of the two settings is more comfortable for you.

How To Disable Chrome Automatic Updates In Mac
If you use Google Chrome on your Mac, and chances are that you do, you must have noticed that it automatically updates itself. While this is definitely a good thing, partly because it saves you the trouble of updating yet another app, and partly (and this is important) because this means that you always have the latest security updates pushed to your browser. However, the problem is that if you want to disable automatic updates in Chrome, you simply can’t do it. There is absolutely no option in Google Chrome that will allow you to disable automatic updates for the browser. This is probably there so that users don’t disable updates, and end up making themselves vulnerable. But, if you really want to disable automatic updates for Google Chrome, you can follow the steps given below:
Check Chrome’s Update Check IntervalGoogle Chrome has a set interval at which it checks for any available updates. If it finds one, the update is automatically downloaded, and installed. While checking the current value of the update check interval is not really necessary, it is a good idea to do this, so you can set it back to default if you want to. To check the current check interval, simply follow the steps below:
1. Launch Terminal, and type “defaults read com.google.Keystone.Agent checkInterval“. Hit Enter.
Disable Chrome Auto Updates
Note: It is not recommended to disable automatic updates for Google Chrome, as this will leave you susceptible to potential security threats, that Google might patch in a later version. Only do this if you know what you’re doing. Also, it is recommended to manually update Google Chrome every now and then, just to be on the safer side. I will tell you how you can manually check for updates at the end of this article.
All it takes is one command on the Terminal, and Chrome automatic updates will get disabled on a Mac. If you’re sure that you want to disable automatic updates for Google Chrome on your Mac, just launch Terminal, and type the command “defaults write com.google.Keystone.Agent checkInterval 0“.
Manually Update Google Chrome
If you have disabled automatic updates for Google Chrome, I would definitely suggest that you still manually run the updater in order to keep the version updated. To manually run the updater, simply follow the steps below:
Note: If that location doesn’t have anything, go to “~/Library/Google/GoogleSoftwareUpdate/GoogleSoftwareUpdate.bundle/Contents/Resources/”, instead.
Re-Enable Automatic UpdatesIf you decide that automatic updates were probably better for you, you can always set them up again. All you need to do, is launch the Terminal, and type “defaults write com.google.Keystone.Agent checkInterval 18000“. This will set the update interval back to the default value that Google Chrome comes with. You will need to restart Chrome for the changes to take effect.

How To Set Up Picture Password In Windows 10
As one of the most secure operating systems, Windows 10 offers its users a variety of ways to log in to authenticate themselves. From a regular password and PIN code to facial recognition, fingerprint, physical security keys, and picture passwords – Microsoft has put to your disposal an array of different user authentication options. Naively, most users have been using regular passwords, few even try PINs; these options are great but remembering them does pose challenges. So why not try a Picture Password in Windows 10 that is simple, fast, and an equally effective and entertaining way to log in into your Windows system?
In this Windows 10 tutorial, you will know what Picture Password in Windows 10 is and how to set up an efficient one.
What is a Picture Password in Windows 10All in all, the picture password offers an interesting and quick way to log in, it is easier than remembering and typing a long password, user-friendly, and much more fun in general. The trick is to make your picture password gestures easy enough for you to remember but complex enough so someone else would not be able to guess them.
Please note – Picture passwords work best on touch-screen devices, but you can also use them on a standard PC via your mouse.
How to make a hard-to-crack Picture Password in Windows 10?Keep in mind, that picture passwords work best on touch-screen devices, hence tapping the gestures on the screen will leave behind oils and other stains. This could make your PC vulnerable to a password leak as someone might be able to decode your gestures. A quick wipe-off is important after drawing your passwords. In addition to the basic hygiene check, Microsoft too has a few suggestions for making your picture passwords tough to crack. These include:
Clean your screen.
Select a picture that has quite a few interesting points. An image having just one or two interesting locations will give you fewer points to choose from.
Mix different gestures. Do not use just lines or taps, mix up things in any sequence that is easier for you to remember.
Change direction, remember lines can go from bottom to top and left to right. And a circle can be made anti-clockwise too.
Do not hesitate to hide. Let us admit, Picture passwords a little riskier than keyboard passwords as these appear on the screen as you are drawing it.
How to set up and use Picture PasswordTo create a picture password for your user account in Windows 10, follow these steps:
2] Hit on ‘Accounts’ and select ‘Sign-In Options’ appearing on the left panel.
3] Sign-in Options page displays all the password settings.
4] Scroll down to locate the ‘Picture Password’ option.
Please note – if your Windows account does not have a password, you will be prompted to set up one. Also, if you do have one, Windows will ask you to verify the same.
6] Type your password, and hit ‘Ok’.
8] The selected picture appears in a cropping bucket; you can drag it around to crop it the way you want it to fit on your screen.
10] Next, Windows prompts you to set up your gestures. Here you will have to draw three gestures which can include a combination of straight lines, circles, and taps.
You will need to draw your gestures on the image. So, trace the gestures exactly as you want them.
11] Repeat the gestures as you will have to confirm them now. Ensure that the gestures you enter are in the correct order as you entered them earlier.
12] Once successfully confirmed your picture password is ready.
Try locking your system now by pressing ‘Alt + Ctrl + Del’ keys select ‘Lock’ – make sure to replicate your gestures here on. So, the next time you try to log in to your Windows 10 PC, the operating system will ask you for your picture password instead of your regular account password.
So now, you know how to create a Windows 10 picture password.
TIP: If you wish, you can disable the Picture Password Sign-In option in Windows 10 using Registry or Group Policy Editor.

How does the Remove Background feature in PowerPoint work?
There is a very handy Remove Background feature in PowerPoint by virtue of which you can remove the background of an image that you have inserted in a slide. Oftentimes, when you want to use the subject from a picture or only a part of the picture, this tool comes in handy. While the tool is not as sophisticated as a Photoshop tool, it gets the job done if you are in a hurry or need a quick fix.
On the other hand, if the image you’re working with has a gradient background with a lot of noise, then you will have to use the Remove Background function which has a slight learning curve. Nevertheless, the results are good and you will thank yourself for learning how to use this PowerPoint feature.

How to remove the background of a picture using PowerPoint
Launch Microsoft PowerPoint on your system from the Start Menu.
Open a Blank PowerPoint so that you can execute the next steps.
Now select the image that you want to edit and place it on a blank slide.
When you do this, the background of the image will become magenta. The magenta color indicates the area that PowerPoint wants to remove.
Now gently draw over the areas that you want to keep in the final image using the mouse.
Then using your mouse mark the areas that you want to remove carefully.
How to make a picture background transparent using PowerPoint?
Follow the first six steps from the above section and continue with the next steps. Make sure to choose an image with a solid background as this method only works effectively when the background is absolutely discernable like this one.
How to save the image with transparent background
When you do this, PowerPoint will prompt you to save the file in the location of your choice. At this point, you can also choose whether the image should be JPEG or PNG.
While this is quite a handy feature, do keep in mind that PowerPoint does not replace a professional photo editor under any circumstances. Depending on how complicated the image is, the result may not be as great as you would expect. So as reliable as the feature is, it also depends on the kind of image that you are editing so proceed accordingly. Take care and stay safe!

How To Stop Excel From Changing Numbers To Dates Automatically
Excel has some really smart features that can be really useful in many cases (and sometimes it could be frustrating).
One such area is when you enter numbers in Excel. Sometimes, Excel automatically changes these numbers to dates.
For example, if you enter 1/2 in Excel, Excel will automatically change this to 01-02-2023 (or 02-01-2023 if you’re in the US)
Similarly, if you enter 30-06-2023, Excel assumes you want to enter a date, and it changes this to a date (as shown below)
While this may be what you want in most cases, but what if I don’t want this. What if I simply want the exact text 30-06-2023 or the fraction 1/2.
How do I stop Excel from changing numbers to dates?
That’s what this tutorial is about.
In this Excel tutorial, I will show you two really simple ways to stop Excel from changing numbers to text.
But before I show you methods, let me quickly explain why Excel does this.
While it can be frustrating when Excel does this, it’s trying to help.
In most cases, when people enter numbers that can also represent valid date formats in Excel, it will automatically convert these numbers into dates.
And this just doesn’t mean that it changes the format, it actually changes the underlying value.
For example, if you enter 3/6/2023 (or 6/3/2023 if you’re in the US and using the US date format), Excel changes the cell value to 44012, which is the numerical value of the date.
Also read: How to Convert Numbers to Text in ExcelThe only way to stop Excel from changing these numbers (or text string) into dates is by clearing letting it know that these are not numbers.
Let’s see how to do this.
The easiest way to make sure Excel understands that it’s not supposed to change a number to date is by specifying the format of the cell as Text.
Since dates are stored as numbers, when you make the format of a cell text, Excel will understand that the entered number is supposed to be in the text format and not to be converted into a date.
Below is how you can stop Excel from changing numbers to dates:
Select the cell or range of cells where you want to make the format as Text
The above steps would change the cell format to text. Now when you enter any number such as 30-06-2023 or 1/2, Excel will not convert these into date format.
Note: You need to change the format before you enter the number. If you do this after the number has been entered, this would change the format to text but you would get the numeric value of the date and not the exact number/text-string you entered.
This method is best suited when you have to change the format of a range of cells. If you only have to do this for a couple of cells, it’s best to use the apostrophe method covered next
If you only have to enter a number in a few cells and you don’t want Excel to change it to date, you can use this simple technique.
Just add an apostrophe sign before you enter the number (as shown below).
When you add an apostrophe at the very beginning, Excel considers that cell as text.
While you would not see the apostrophe sign, you can visually see that the numbers would be aligned to the left (indicating that it’s text).
By default, all numbers align to the right and all text values align to the left.
Another benefit of using the apostrophe sign is that you can still use the lookup formulas (such as VLOOKUP or MATCH) using the value in the cell. The apostrophe will be ignored by these functions.
You can also use this method to change existing dates into text. For example, if you have 30-06-2023 in a cell, you can simply add an apostrophe (‘) at the beginning and it will be changed the date to text
While these methods are great, what if you have a column full of dates that you want to use as a text and not as dates. Here are some simple methods you can use to convert date to text in Excel.
