The health app has a significant amount of valuable information. It is recommended that you have it automatically backed up to iCloud. This will ensure that all your data is safe in switching to a new iPhone or resetting and restoring it. We have a quick post that shows you how to back up health data to iCloud.

How to Export Health Data From iPhone

Backup and export are different things. Backup is for your own safekeeping. Export is for situations you want to send this data to a doctor or take an in-depth look at yourself. You can even run your own calculations and see everything from a perspective that is different from the Health app. We have listed a couple of ways to export and import health data. Make sure you check it out.

The iOS App Store is filled with several incredible health apps. You can manually search for them, tap on the Apps tab, tap on See All next to Top Categories, and then choose Health & Fitness.

Additionally, the Health app also recommends and shows you helpful apps for some selected categories.

Signing off…

This is how you can start using the iPhone Health app. Overall it is a well-built place to see all data in one place. The app also integrates well with the Apple Watch and lets you view your goals, exercise, stand data, heart rate data, Breathe app data, and much more from the Browse tab.

You may be asked to merge the local Freeform data with that on iCloud. Select “Merge” to continue.

How To Use Quickpath Swipe Keyboard On Iphone

Android users have been enjoying the swipe keyboard for years now. And it’s now time for iOS users to use it on their devices. Yes, you heard that right! The latest update of iOS 13 and iPadOS has now got swipe keyboard with a feature named as QuickPath. It works on gestures provided by you on the keyboard.

Of course, it was possible to use swipe keyboard feature on iOS devices but it was only possible with third-party keyboard apps. But now, the feature is built-in in the latest version of iOS 13 and iPadOS as well. In this post, I will guide you on how to enable and use QuickPath keyboard on your iPhone and iPad running on iOS 13 and iPadOS respectively.

How to Use QuickPath Keyboard on iPhone and iPad

Let me breakdown this guide into two parts. One for those who are using the iPhone and the other one who is using an iPad. But before if you aren’t aware how this swipe keyboard works, you’re missing out something important. Here’s how it works.

How Does QuickPath Swipe Keyboard Work

Usually, you type by placing your finger on each letter on the keyboard to complete a work or a text. But when swipe keyboard is enabled and if you want to type a word, say igeeksblog, you must start from ‘i’ and then swipe towards g,e,e and so on to complete the word.

Once you complete typing a word, lift your finger, it will give a space automatically and then you can start typing the next word and so on to continue. This will surely improve your typing speed, in fact, it’s swiping speed now after the addition of QuickPath.

This is how simple it is to use the swipe keyboard on your devices. Now let’s see how you can set up and use it on your iPhone and iPad both.

Quick Links:

How to Enable and Use iPhone Swipe Keyboard in iOS 13

With the release of iOS 13, there are a plethora of features that makes me impressed and one of them is QuickPath swipe keyboard. Here’s how to use it on your iPhone.

Step #1. Launch Settings app and head over to General from the list.

Step #2. Now tap on Keyboard and look for Slide to Type option from the list. Toggle Slide to Type to ON.

Step #3. Now open any app that pops up the keyboard and type by swiping on the keyboard at a glance.

That’s how simple it is to set up the swipe keyboard function on your iPhone running on iOS 13. Let’s now see how to enable QuickPath in iPadOS.

How to Enable and Use iPad Swipe Keyboard in iPadOS

Step #1. Open Settings app on your iPad.

Step #2. Next, tap on General → tap on Keyboard and toggle Slide on Floating Keyboard to Type to ON.

Step #3. The swipe keyboard is ready to use but the laptop-sized keyboard isn’t comfortable for swiping. In order to solve this issue, simply pinch the iPad keyboard to make it as small as possible.

Step #4. You can now start swiping once the keyboard is small just like your iPhone. The best thing is, you can float the minimized keyboard to any corner of iPad’s screen so that you can choose a comfortable part to start swiping on the keyboard.

Step #5. Once you’ve used the keyboard, pinch out the mini keyboard to make things normal on your iPad.

If you ask me, I would love to use QuickPath swipe keyboard on my iPad rather than my iPhone as it gives the floating keyboard option. This gives me a chance to pick my comfortable spot to start typing (swiping) on the keyboard.

How to Disable QuickPath Swipe Keyboard in iOS 13 and iPadOS

Not many would like to disable the QuickPath feature looking at the speed it gives you while typing on the iPhone and iPad but a few might prefer the traditional way to use the keyboard. So here’s how to disable QuickPath in iOS 13.

Step #1. Launch Settings app on iPhone or iPad → Head over to the General settings.

Step #2. Tap on Keyboard and toggle Slide to Type to OFF on iPhone and toggle Slide on Floating Keyboard to Type to OFF on iPad.

That’s how simple it is to disable QuickPath swipe keyboard on your iPhone and iPad running on iOS 13 and iPadOS respectively.

QuickPath Supported Languages

Often, the features are released keeping English native users in mind. But that’s the case with QuickPath. It supports multiple languages as well. Here are the languages that are supported on QuickPath both for iOS 13 and iPadOS.

English

German

Portuguese

Simplified Chinese

Italian

Spanish

How To Use Dfu Mode On Iphone And Ipad

On rare occasions, your iPhone or iPad can run into serious issues—perhaps after a botched software update—that you can’t fix with standard troubleshooting. Before taking the device to an Apple Store, however, there’s one last thing you should try—resetting the iPhone or iPad in DFU (Device Firmware Update) Mode.

Table of Contents

When You Should Enter DFU Mode

If you have a malfunctioning iPhone or iPad, you must first update or reset it in Recovery Mode. Only resort to using DFU Mode in instances where the device continues to:

Resetting your iPhone or iPad in DFU Mode will permanently erase all data on it. If you have a recent iCloud or iTunes/Finder backup, you can restore the lost data after the reset procedure. You can also get back any data—such as photos and contacts—that you’ve set to sync with iCloud by signing into your Apple ID later on.

If the device shows up in iTunes/Finder when you connect it to a Mac or PC, it’s a good idea to create a fresh backup online or locally before entering and using DFU Mode on your iPhone.

What You Need to Enter DFU Mode

You need a Mac or PC to enter and interact with DFU Mode—via the iTunes or Finder apps—on the iPhone or iPad. You should also have a compatible USB cable to connect the malfunctioning device to the computer physically.

Note: On the PC, you must download and install iTunes manually (if you haven’t already). The Mac comes with iTunes pre-installed, but it’s replaced by the Finder app  starting with macOS Catalina.

However, there’s no reason to use a Mac or PC that you’ve previously used for backup or sync purposes. DFU Mode does not require access to any files on the iPhone or iPad, so any macOS or Windows 10 device should be good enough.

How to Enter DFU Mode

To enter DFU Mode on the iPhone or iPad, you must press various buttons that change depending on the device’s make and model. The steps below may appear confusing—and tricky—to time correctly at first, so you may fail a few times before getting them right.

Unlike Recovery Mode, the screen on your iPhone or iPad will remain blank in DFU Mode. If you see anything (such as a “Plug into Mac/PC” indicator) at the end of the steps, you must try again.

Note: The following instructions work on an iPhone or iPad regardless of whether it’s powered On or Off.

1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to a Mac or PC.

2. Open iTunes or the Finder app.

3. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button on the iPhone or iPad.

4. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.

5. Quickly press and hold the Side/Top button until the screen turns black. Or, wait until the Apple logo shows up and disappears again.

6. Immediately hold down the Volume Down button without releasing the Side button.

7. Wait for 5 seconds.

8. Release the Side button but keep holding the Volume Down button.

9. Release the Volume Down button once the device shows up in iTunes or Finder.

iPhone 7 Series

1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC.

2. Open iTunes or the Finder app.

3. Press and hold the iPhone’s Side and Volume Down buttons.

4. Wait for 8-10 seconds. In the meantime, the screen should turn off, or the Apple logo should show up and disappear.

5. Release the Side button while holding the Volume Down button.

6. Release the Volume Down button once you see the device in iTunes or Finder.

1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC.

2. Open iTunes or the Finder app.

3. Press and hold the Side/Top and Home buttons on the iPhone or iPad.

4. Wait for 8-10 seconds.

4. Release the Side/Top button but keep holding down the Home button.

5. Release the Home button once you see the device in iTunes or Finder.

How to Use DFU Mode on iPhone and iPad

In DFU Mode, select Restore iPhone or Restore iPad to begin resetting the iPhone or iPad. iTunes/Finder will automatically download the latest version of the iOS/iPadOS system software (which typically amounts to 5-6GB) and install it on your iPhone or iPad. It will also restore the firmware.

Note: Suppose your iPhone or iPad automatically exits DFU mode during the download phase. In that case, you must perform the button presses all over again and wait for iTunes/Finder to finish the download.

Do not disconnect your iPhone or iPad while iTunes/Finder is actively re-installing the system software and firmware. That will make the device completely unusable.

If DFU mode completes successfully, select the Restore from iCloud Backup or the Restore from Mac or PC option while setting up your iPhone or iPad to restore data from an iCloud or iTunes/Finder backup.

How to Exit DFU Mode on iPhone and iPad

If you want to exit DFU Mode without resetting your iPhone or iPad, you must force-restart the device.

1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.

2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.

3. Quickly press and hold the Side/Top button until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

iPhone 7 Series

Press and hold both the Side and Volume Down buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Press and hold both the Side/Top and the Home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

The Next Course of Action

Performing a reset in DFU Mode does not guarantee that you’ll end up fixing your iPhone or iPad. Some issues—specifically those related to faulty hardware—are impossible to resolve by restoring the system software and firmware.

Iphone Dfu Mode Explained: How To Use & Enter Dfu Mode On Iphone

What is iPhone DFU mode?

DFU mode is a state that you can put your iPhone into where it can interface with iTunes, but does not load the iPhone operating system or boot loader (this is what really differs DFU mode from the more simple recovery mode). DFU stands for Device Firmware Update.

What is DFU Mode Used for? How to Enter iPhone DFU Mode

You will need iTunes (Mac or Windows PC), the iOS device (in this case, an iPhone), and a USB cable, in order to enter into DFU mode:

Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes

Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone) if it isn’t off already

Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button

Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected, here is what that that message in iTunes usually looks like:

When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black, but detected by iTunes

This is what an iPhone in DFU mode looks like, it’s not much, just a black screen – but critically, it’s detected by iTunes on the computer:

Even though the screen is black, that doesn’t mean the device can’t be interfaced with either iTunes or a custom firmware client (for jailbreaking, etc).

Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. If anything else is the case, repeat the steps above until you enter into DFU mode successfully.

Restoring a Device from DFU Mode

Once you are in DFU mode you can restore the iPhone with firmware by selecting the appropriate iOS IPSW files, or set it up as new, restore from a backup, update with iTunes itself to the latest version of iOS, or whatever else you need to do. We cover using IPSW files in detail here.

Do note that you can usually perform a simple iOS update or restore with Recovery Mode, DFU is not always required, particularly for some more basic troubleshooting situations.

How to Exit DFU Mode on iPhone

The simplest way to exit out of DFU mode is to hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons on the iPhone while connected to iTunes. Then just hit the power button as and this should reboot the device as usual.

And if you’re curious, yes this works all the same on an iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, it’s all the same.

The most common use for DFU mode is to repair and restore a bricked iphone, sometimes to attempt an iOS downgrade to an earlier version, or for reasons pertaining to a jailbreak. In the latter situation, it’s not unusual for people to buy an existing iPhone and jailbreak and unlock the device to use the phone on another network or overseas. But there are other purposes for DFU mode as well, and it’s a handy troubleshooting trick if you’re in a bind and an iOS device is seemingly not working at all, and not responding to typical tricks if it’s refusing to turn on.

All Devices Support DFU

Do note DFU mode works on all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, with all versions of iOS, and it can be detected with all versions of iTunes. That said, you will generally want to have the most recent version of iTunes available to avoid trouble updating and restoring devices from iTunes.

One thing to keep in mind is that some of the newer Apple devices have different methods of entering DFU mode, for example entering DFU mode on iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus and DFU mode on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are different from DFU mode on prior devices because the hardware buttons have changed or been removed. You may also want to know how to enter DFU mode on iPad Pro (2023 and newer with Face ID), enter DFU mode on iPad with Home button, or enter DFU on iPhone XS, XR, XS Max, X.
