Suggested January 2024 Photoshop Scratch Disks Are Full? How Do You Empty Scratch Disk Without Opening Photoshop?
Any software uses temporary storage for some of the important work, which comes in handy when there is not enough RAM. In similar ways, Adobe Photoshop uses part of the hard disk for this kind of work and calls it a Scratch Disk. When using Photoshop, if you are receiving Photoshop Scratch Disks are full error then this post will help you fix it.
Could not complete the command because the scratch disks are full
What is Photoshop Scratch Disk?A scratch disk is a hard disk drive or SSD used as temporary storage to save document history, states, and anything that cannot be saved into the RAM for a long time or doesn’t fit into the memory.
The default location of Scratch Disk is the hard drive on which the OS is installed. This applies to both Windows and macOS.
Fix Photoshop Scratch Disks are fullIf you see Could not complete the command because the scratch disks are full message, follow these methods to fix the problem:
Delete Photoshop Temporary Files
Increase Scratch Disk space
Change Scratch Disk Location
Disable Photoshop Recovery
Let Photoshop Use More RAM
Make sure you clearly understand how the changes will impact the work.
1] Delete Photoshop Temporary Files
Open Run prompt (Win + R)
Type %temp% and press the Enter key
In the folder, select all files which are named Photoshop or PST.
Use Shift + Delete to delete the files permanently
2] Increase Scratch Disk spacePhotoshop recommends a minimum of 6 GB disk space to use as a scratch disk. If you don’t have enough free disk space on the drive used as a scratch disk, you need to increase it. We all the default minimum location doesn’t work out for most of the time.
To calculate, if the free space in your scratch disk is 10 GB, the available disk space Photoshop will consider is 10-6 = 4GB, and that may not be enough.
You can either change the location or remove unwanted things to create more space.
3] Change Scratch Disk LocationIf you have a spare hard drive or another partition on your computer, then you can change the Scratch Disk location to that though we still recommend using an SSD over HDD and an external location.
Open Photoshop, and go to Preferences.
4] Disable Photoshop RecoveryAdobe Photoshop automatically saves the files as you work on them, but this increases the amount of random access memory the application uses. You can disable auto-recovery saving if it is of no use to you to free up some space on your scratch disk.
Launch Photoshop on your PC
Uncheck the box that says Automatically Save Recovery Information.
5] Let Photoshop Use More RAMScratch Disks are used when the amount of RAM is not enough to hold everything. If you have excess RAM available on your computer, you can allocate Photoshop to use it.
On the side panel, check for the box labeled as —Let Photoshop Use.
Enter the amount of RAM that you want Photoshop to use.
Why is Photoshop saying my scratch disks are full?Photoshop uses scratch disks to save file history and other temporary files. Since it works on allocated disk space, it keeps filling with whatever you are working on. When it gets full, you get the error message.
How do I empty my scratch disk without opening Photoshop? Could not initialize Photoshop scratch disks are full?Scratch disks are used for almost everything by Photoshop, including initialization. When it is full, Photoshop will fail to launch as well.
How do you reset Photoshop?Another way to delete the preferences file is by going to Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings and delete everything inside it.
On macOS the location is set to Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings.
Overall, the error can be resolved easily by clearing the space or adding extra space or RAM for Photoshop. Once the space is available, the error should be gone. However, it is important that you allocate enough storage space if you do a lot of editing. I hope the post was easy to follow, and you were able to fix Photoshop Scratch Disks are a full issue.

How To Blend Images In Photoshop?
Introduction to Blend in Adobe Photoshop
Blend in Adobe Photoshop changes the way that a layer reacts with the layer underneath. Blend modes such as layer mask, auto blend, layer opacity options offer the users with the means and flexibility to create artwork that best uses photography with digital software; it also includes a detailed description of using and creating design using the various blend modes available in Photoshop in a step by step manner to help you better project your work both professionally as well as aesthetically.
Methods to Blend Images in PhotoshopThis tutorial will learn how to blend images together in photoshop and create realistic images using various methods.

3D animation, modelling, simulation, game development & others
Method #1 – Layer Mask MethodStep 2: Merge the Images together. Now, we will bring the two images together into a single document. For that, select the move tool from the tool panel on the left or press V on the keyboard for its shortcut. Next, select the second image window using the mouse cursor and drag it onto the first image window. Now you can release the mouse in the middle of the document to get the images together for blending.
Step 4: In the fourth step, select the gradient tool by pressing the key. The foreground and background colors should be set to black and white. Now, we will select the gradient as linear and drag the gradient over the image.
Step 5: The resulting effect is two images that blend together very well. You can also notice that the mask containing a gradient in the layer thumbnail, as shown below. The areas that are white will display the top image, while the black areas display the background image. You can try with numerous gradient effects until you obtain the desired result, as the mask can be overrun endlessly.
NOTE: You can also try changing the blending modes. There are various blending modes such as screen, multiply, darken, lighten overlay and so on, which you can try out and see which one best suits the image. In addition, you can experiment with brush tools on the mask. It is best recommended to use soft brushes.
Method #2 – The Auto-Blend Layers CommandThe auto blend layer command can be used in Adobe Photoshop to merge or stitch images with a smooth transition in the final output. It works by applying layer masks as required over each layer to extract underexposed parts efficiently. However, you need to remember that the auto blend layers option is applicable only on RGB and grayscale images. That means it does not have any effect on smart objects, BG layers, 3D layers, and video layers.
Depth of Field BlendingThe first step is to bring together the two images you want to blend in the same document.
Step 1: Once the images are in the separate layers, select the layers you need to blend.
Step 2: The next step is to apply the auto blend layers. For that, select the layers and select edit.
PanoramaIf you choose panorama, the resulting blend will be overlapped layers in panorama view.
Stack ImagesThe stack option blends details from the merging areas effectively.
Method #3 – Layer Opacity OptionIn this third method, we will blend two images using the layer opacity option in Photoshop. You can follow a similar method discussed above by placing them together in separate layers using the layer panel option.
Step 1: Below, I have used the image of a city landscape and a glowing star to blend.
Step 2: On the upper right of the Layers panel, you can find the opacity option. The opacity value of the picture will be set to 100 % by default. Therefore, the image on the top will be blocking the background image. The opacity value determines the transparency level of an image. Hence, we will be lowering the opacity value for the top image. It will slowly bring the background image to visibility. In this example, I have lower the opacity from 100 % to 60%.
Step 3: Now, you will notice that the image below is slowly starting to blend with the city landscape.
ConclusionIt was quick info on how we can blend images in Adobe Photoshop using the various blend methods such as the layer mask method, the auto blend layers command, and the layer opacity option. Create amazing visuals using the blend options after mastering their usage. Similarly, you can loan more about other tutorials on various Photoshop effects, applications, and modes. Try them out and upskill your graphic designing skills for your career.

How To Slice Text In Photoshop
Learn how to slice text in Photoshop, and how to keep the text editable even after you slice it! A step-by-step tutorial.
Written by Steve Patterson.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you step-by-step how to create a popular “sliced text” effect with Photoshop. And unlike other tutorials that force you to convert your text into pixels before you cut it into slices, you’ll learn how to keep your text editable so you can try out different words using the same slices!
Here’s a quick design I came up with to show the sliced text effect we’ll be creating. Notice that the word “SLICE” is sliced in half:
The sliced text effect.
Once we’ve created the initial effect, I’ll show you how to edit the text so you can use the same slices with a different word without starting over:
The same sliced effect with different text.
Hungry to learn how to slice text? Then let’s get started!
Download this tutorial as a print-ready PDF!
How to slice text in PhotoshopFor this tutorial, I’m using Photoshop CC but every step is compatible with Photoshop CS6. You can get the latest Photoshop version here.
You can also follow along with my video of this tutorial on our YouTube channel. Or download this tutorial as a print-ready PDF and get exclusive bonus content!
Step 1: Add your text to the documentThe first step in creating a sliced text effect is to add some text. I’ve gone ahead and added the text to my document, but you can easily follow along by creating a new document and adding any text you like:
The initial Photoshop document with the text added.
If we look in the Layers panel, we see how my document is set up. The main image is on the Background layer, and the word “SLICE” is on a Type layer above it. I’ve added a stroke around the letters, which is listed as an effect below the Type layer.
The remaining text (“BUY ONE”, “GET ONE FREE”, and so on) is in a layer group at the top named “Additional text”. I’ve placed it in a group just to keep it out of the way. For this effect, the only text we’re interested in is the word “SLICE”:
The Layers panel showing the document setup.
Turning off the additional textTurning off the “Additional text” layer group.
And now we see just the word “SLICE” in front of the background image (pizza slices photo from Adobe Stock):
The document after turning off the additional text. Photo credit: Adobe Stock.
Step 2: Convert the Type layer into a smart object
To keep the text editable as you slice it, convert the Type layer into a smart object. First, make sure that the Type layer you need is selected:
Selecting the Type layer in the Layers panel.
And choose Convert to Smart Object from the menu:
Choosing the “Convert to Smart Object” command.
A smart object icon appears in the lower right of the preview thumbnail, telling us that our text is now safely inside a smart object:
Smart objects are indicated by their icon in the preview thumbnail.
Step 3: Select the Rectangle ToolTo draw the slices, we’ll use Photoshop’s Rectangle Tool. Select the Rectangle Tool from the Toolbar:
Selecting the Rectangle Tool.
Step 4: Set the Tool Mode to PathThen in the Options Bar, set the Tool Mode to Path:
Setting the mode for the Rectangle Tool to Path.
Step 5: Draw a path around the bottom half of the textDrag out a rectangular path around the bottom half of your text. We’re going to use this path to create the bottom slice. For best results, try to make the path wider than the text itself, so that if you need to edit the text later, and the new text is a bit longer than the original text, the new text will still fit within the slice.
If you need to reposition the path as you’re drawing it, press and hold your spacebar, drag the path into place, and then release your spacebar to continue drawing the path:
Drawing a rectangular path around the bottom half of the text.
Step 6: Choose the Direct Selection ToolNow that we have our path, we’ll reshape it into a diagonal slice.
Selecting the Direct Selection Tool from behind the Path Selection Tool.
Step 7: Deselect the path Step 8: Select and drag the top left anchor point downwardAnd drag the point downward to turn the top of the path into a sloped, diagonal line:
Dragging the top left anchor point downward.
Converting the live shape into a regular path Step 9: Select and drag the top right anchor point upwardDragging the top right anchor point upward.
What’s the difference between vector shapes and pixel shapes in Photoshop?
Step 10: Convert the path into a vector maskA vector mask thumbnail appears next to the smart object’s preview thumbnail:
The vector mask thumbnail in the Layers panel.
And in the document, we see that the top part of the text has disappeared. Only the bottom part inside the vector mask remains visible, creating our first slice:
The first slice has been created.
Step 11: Make a copy of the smart objectTo create the top slice, make a copy of the smart object by going up to the Layer menu, choosing New, and then choosing Layer via Copy. Or you can press the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+J (Win) / Command+J (Mac):
In the Layers panel, a copy of the smart object appears above the original:
The Layers panel showing the smart object copy.
Step 12: Choose “Subtract Front Shape”And choose Subtract Front Shape from the menu:
Choosing “Subtract Front Shape” from the Path Operations menu.
This inverts the vector mask, making the top slice visible, and we now have both slices:
The top slice appears after choosing “Subtract Front Shape”.
Hiding the path Viewing the slicesTurning off the top slice.
We see only the bottom slice of the text:
The bottom smart object holds the bottom slice.
Turning off the bottom slice.
The top smart object holds the top slice.
Step 13: Select the Move ToolTo move the slices apart, select Photoshop’s Move Tool from the Toolbar:
Selecting the Move Tool.
Step 14: Drag the slices the separate themI’ll select the bottom slice in the Layers panel:
Selecting the bottom slice.
And then I’ll use the arrow keys on my keyboard to nudge the bottom slice down and to the right:
Separating the slices using the arrow keys on my keyboard.
Turning the additional text back onTurning on the layer group.
And here we see the layout with the sliced text effect added:
The sliced text effect.
How to edit the text inside the slicesSo now that we’ve created the sliced text effect, let’s learn how to edit the text inside the slices.
Even though we’ve created the slices using two separate smart objects, each smart object holds the exact same Type layer. So if we change the text in one smart object, the same change will appear in both.
The text opens in its own separate document:
The text appears, ready for editing.
Step 2: Select the Type ToolSelect Photoshop’s Type Tool from the Toolbar:
Grabbing the Type Tool.
Step 3: Edit your textThen I’ll change the word from “SLICE” to “PIZZA”:
Replacing the original word with a new word.
Step 5: Choose “Reveal All” if neededNotice that in this case, editing the text created a problem. The new text is a bit too long to fit within the viewable area of the document, so part of the letter “A” on the right is extending off the canvas:
The new text doesn’t fit on the canvas.
If this happens with your text, go up to the Image menu in the Menu Bar and choose Reveal All:
And Photoshop instantly resizes the canvas to fit the entire text:
The entire word is now visible after choosing “Reveal All”.
Step 6: Save and close the smart object documentTo accept the change and return to the main document, we need to save and close the smart object’s document.
Go up to the File menu and choose Save:
And then go back to the File menu and choose Close:
Back in the main document, we see the same effect, but this time with our edited text:
Same effect, different text.
And there we have it! That’s how to slice text, and how to edit the text inside the effect, with Photoshop! Check out our Photo Effects and Text Effects sections for more tutorials. And don’t forget, all of our tutorials are available to download as PDFs!
How To Solve Save Formats Missing In Photoshop.
If you have just updated Adobe Photoshop to a newer version you’ve probably been enjoying some of the new features and the design layout. However, you’re probably also noticed a major change to the way you save images. Save as no longer has any of the formats you primarily use. Thankfully there is a solution for this.

Adobe Photoshop is the best image editing and digital art creation tool on the market, it’s got more features than the average person will ever use, allows you to work in a ton of different formats and styles and has hundreds of thousands of hours worth of guides and tutorials dedicated to learning on YouTube. All that said, it isn’t the cheapest piece of software to use.
The good news, depending on how you see it, is that this isn’t a bug or error with Photoshop. All the usual formats are missing by design. I personally hate the change but it does make sense. The change is designed to prevent users from accidentally overwriting their original file with a flat format like jpg or png which doesn’t contain any editing history, layering, etc.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to change back to the old method unless you go back to a Photoshop version prior to this change being added. While I do dislike the change, I see the reasoning behind it and I know I will eventually get used to it sooner or later. With an emphasis on later at the rate things are going. Anyway, that wraps up our guide on Photoshop not showing all save formats, hopefully, this has helped you out of a spot of trouble!
