Suggested December 2023 Ten New Ipad Pro Details You’ll Want To Know Before Buying One
Just as predicted by my colleague Mark Gurman, the iPad Pro became available to purchase today, making a rare simultaneous appearance in Apple’s online and physical stores without any preorder period. Consequently, it’s actually possible to walk into an Apple Store today to buy one — and if my experience today is any indication, there probably won’t even be much of a line.
If you’re still unsure as to whether you want an iPad Pro, I’ve put together this quick guide to some of the real-world things people will want to know about the new 12.9″ iPad before making a purchase — including some comparison photos and other hands-on details. Enjoy the details and galleries below…
1. How Big Is Big? How much space are you really going to save carrying an iPad Pro instead of a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro? Not a lot, particularly if you’re also toting a keyboard around. Inside a keyboard case, the iPad Pro has a nearly identical footprint to the 13″ Retina MacBook Pro (above), and is noticeably bigger than the 11.6″ MacBook Air. (Check out the gallery below to see a shot of the iPad Pro in a keyboard case dwarfing the smaller Air.)
3. The Extra Speakers Actually Do Make A Difference. The iPad Pro has four speakers — two on “top,” two on “bottom” — and they’re much better than on any prior iPad. Believe it or not, the iPad Pro makes the 13″ Retina MacBook Pro’s speakers sound weak; they’re remarkably a step louder, noticeably clearer, and decidedly wider in frequency, better in both treble and bass. Apple’s promised stereo separation feature works seamlessly, too, properly switching the “left” and “right” channels over to the correct speakers as you rotate the iPad Pro around.
5. Most Of The Time, It Doesn’t Feel Materially Faster Than An iPad Air 2. Most apps, including Apple’s, feel like they’re running at the same speeds once you get them open, though the iPad Pro can and will load apps a little faster. As between the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro, you’re more likely to notice Internet/wireless retrieval delays than CPU or GPU performance issues at this point. Oddly, Geekbench’s benchmarking tool shows a lot of variation between results. It consistently reported a gigantic jump in single-core scores from the iPad Air 2 (as wide as 1836 to 3146), but versus the iPad Air 2’s 4605 multi-core score, the Pro’s scores ranged from a barely better 4859 to a higher score of 5324. I’m guessing Geekbench needs an update, but there might be under-the-hood power management reasons for the benchmark differences.
8. Also, You Probably Should Stop Running Those Last Few Upscaled iPhone Apps Now. Sorry, Instagram users. iPhone app upscaling to the iPad was always a little iffy, but on the iPad Pro, it’s downright silly. 1X mode is tiny, and 2X mode no longer fills the screen, remaining closer to the size of an iPad Air screen with tons of black space on the Pro’s display.
10. Apple’s Smart Connector May Become A Game-Changer. For the first time in iPad history, the iPad Pro can actually connect to two wired accessories at once — one with Lightning, one with the Smart Connector. If this wasn’t obvious before due to the volume buttons’ placement, the Smart Connector now defines the “correct” way to use the iPad Pro in landscape mode: with the Home Button on the right side of the screen. It’s going to be really interesting to see how and whether most cases handle the new Connector, as no one knows yet whether it will be useful for things beyond (certain) keyboard docks. Since it was the first thing to show dirt on my Pro after it was unpacked, protection of some sort doesn’t seem like a bad idea, but accessing the port may wind up being challenging if it’s covered…

HUAWEI P30 Pro review recapBefore we get started, why not take a trip down memory lane and read our original written HUAWEI P30 Pro review and watch our video review below!
The smartphone industry moves fast and a year feels like forever when it comes to new technology. However, you don’t always have to be on the bleeding edge to end up with a high-end experience, and the HUAWEI P30 Pro still packs in competitive flagship hardware that can compete with the best of phones of 2023.
The phone boasts a snappy in-display fingerprint scanner, IP68 dust and water resistance rating, fast-ish 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging, Bluetooth 5.0, aptX HD wireless audio, a huge 4,200mAh battery, up to 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 512GB of storage. These specs and features have aged well and work just as wonderfully as in modern flagships. You can also upgrade the P30 Pro to Android 10 and EMUI 10 via an OTA update. What more could you expect from a 2023 flagship phone?

The P30 Pro camera is still one of the best around
Of course, the HUAWEI P series is all about photography prowess. The HUAWEI P30 Pro set a high bar back in its day, with the industry’s first large 1/1.7-inch 40MP RYYB sensor, a wide-angle shooter, a 5x optical zoom lens, and time-of-flight sensor for accurate bokeh. That’s a package that still keeps up with many 2023 flagships. But has its quality been surpassed by more recent handsets like the Galaxy S20 Plus, the Google Pixel 4, or even the latest P series phone, the HUAWEI P40 Pro? Let’s take a quick look at a few Vs camera samples to find out.
Broadly speaking, the HUAWEI P30 Pro is a pretty accurate shooter. It aims for natural rather than oversaturated colors, produces high levels of detail, and offers accurate edges for bokeh blur. The only real drawback is that the camera’s white balance is often a tad too warm compared to Samsung and Google’s latest phones. This is something HUAWEI rectified with the P40 series.
The P30 Pro’s big win versus even 2023 handsets is that it can take a great low light picture in a single shot, thanks to its RYYB sensor. Meanwhile, other phones rely on four to five second exposure night modes for comparable luminosity but often inferior smudged details.
Camera shootout: OnePlus 8 Pro vs Galaxy S20 Plus vs HUAWEI P40 Pro
The consistency and range of options keep the HUAWEI P30 Pro as one of my favorite smartphone cameras of all time. It’s certainly not strictly the best across every segment, at least not anymore, but it’s good in virtually every scenario. The P30 Pro is still an unquestionably great camera package for the price, offering great detail, low light shots, and zoom functionality.
HUAWEI P30 Pro vs HUAWEI P30 Pro New Edition: What’s the difference? The P30 Pro was a great phone in its day and still holds up well enough for HUAWEI to launch an updated version with the HUAWEI P30 Pro New Edition.
Hardware changes with the New Edition are virtually as small as they come. The updated version is equipped with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage, instead of the 6GB/128GB and 8GB/512GB variants HUAWEI originally offered. It features the same Kirin 980 SoC, 4,200mAh battery, and the same camera package. The New Edition ships with EMUI 10.1 out of the box, but that update will head to regular models too.

With Xbox One, You’ll Never Watch Tv Alone

We’ve all done it: you watch the star of your favorite television show do something stupid in the new episode and you can’t stop yourself from shouting at the screen, “Come on! She wouldn’t do that!” Well, Microsoft is providing an easy way to really get that message out there.
In Xbox One‘s newest software updates, which roll out in November, the gaming console’s television functions will be integrated with Twitter. This means you can watch a show on the top portion of the screen and simultaneously send out tweets in the “Snap” sidebar. An optional bottom pane will show tweets that are tied to whatever TV series is being played.
An obvious use will be to enable fans to converse more easily during a television show’s broadcast. People can yell about poorly written plot points, discuss theories for a mystery, or just applaud a particularly witty line from a sitcom. A TV series lives or dies on how big the ratings for the show are. Building up an invested fanbase on social media is one way for shows to grow and survive to another season.
But integrating TV and Twitter will have a larger impact on the news. Imagine being able to read everyone’s reaction in real-time as national news breaks. You could read live reports on a natural disaster from people who are actually there, see instant reactions to political debates, or even monitor the backlash of a celebrity’s faux pas. Reading such tweets adds a human and emotional component to the litany of happenings in the world.
And what would happen if television producers take notice of these features? Some news shows already pander to Twitter users, posing questions and discussing on-air some of the answers tweeted back. Such segments could become fully integrated on 24-hour cable news. And with live events like disasters, car chases, political debates, news outlets would not even have to ask for online responses, they could just grab those that are already being tweeted out.
As for dramas, sitcoms, and other televised fiction, there could be more fostering of a community discussing the surprises and mysteries in a show. Think of the fanatical Lost fanbase from years ago, but amped up by sharing theories about the show’s riddles live while it airs. Of course, that could also mean live Game of Thrones spoilers, with book readers announcing what will happen on the show moments before it does. That would take trolling to a whole new level. Would television studios find ways to fight that? Would they ask Microsoft to filter out spoiler tweets?
The updates will also show users what the Twittersphere is watching at that moment. Thus, you can tune in to become part of the conversation.
Xbox’s senior director, Lisa Gurry, says, “With these added features, we’re making it easy for our fans to discover new shows to love.”
Now trending.
Don’t know what to watch? Xbox One users will soon able to see what shows are trending on Twitter.
Security Secrets The Bad Guys Don’t Want You To Know
Artwork: Diego AguirreYou already know the basics of internet security, right?
Remember, however, that security is all about trade-offs. With most of these tips, what you gain in security, you lose in convenience. But hey, it’s your computer. Be as paranoid as you want to be.
Avoid ScriptingJavaScript is very popular, and for good reason. It works in almost all browsers, and it makes the Web a lot more dynamic. But it also enables bad guys to trick your browser more easily into doing something that it shouldn’t. The deception could be something as simple as telling the browser to load an element from another Web page. Or it could involve something more complicated, like a cross-site scripting attack, which gives the attacker a way to impersonate the victim on a legitimate Web page.
JavaScipt attacks are everywhere. If you use Facebook, you may have seen one of the latest. Lately, scammers have set up illegitimate Facebook pages offering things like a free $500 gift card if you cut and paste some code into your browser’s address bar.
But miscreants can add JavaScript to hacked or malicious Web pages, too. To avoid attacks there, you can use a free Firefox plugin called NoScript that lets you control which Websites can and cannot run JavaScript in the browser. NoScript goes a long way toward preventing rogue antivirus programs or online attacks from popping up when you visit a new Website.
NoScript also comes with a cross-site scripting blocker. Cross-site scripting has been around for a while, but these days bad guys are using it more frequently than ever to seize control of online accounts on sites such as Facebook and YouTube.
Unfortunately, neither Internet Explorer nor Safari has a NoScript equivalent, but IE users can adjust their Internet Zones security settings to require prompts before scripting. And IE 8 includes new cross-site scripting protection to ward off some attacks.
Disabling JavaScript in Adobe Reader can help, too. According to Symantec, last year nearly half of all Web-based attacks were associated with malicious PDF files. If victims had adjusted their settings to make it impossible for PDFs to execute JavaScript, they would have thwarted most of those attacks.
The same holds true for Reader, where PDF-based forms may not submit properly if you’ve disabled JavaScript; nevertheless, many people don’t mind simply turning on Reader’s JavaScript whenever they need it.
Back Out of Rogue Antivirus OffersFar too many people have had this experience recently: You’re surfing the Web on a totally legitimate site when a scary-looking warning message pops up suddenly. It tells you that your computer is infected. You try to get rid of it, but more windows keep popping up, urging you to scan your computer.
If you do this, the scan invariably finds security problems and offers to sell you software that will take care of the problem. This is rogue antivirus software. The only thing the software does is put money into the pockets of criminals.
Here’s what you do:
First off, never buy the software. It simply doesn’t work, and often it will trash your system. Either press Alt-F4 to close your browser directly or press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to open your system’s task manager and shut the browser down from there. Closing the browser generally puts an end to the pop-up problem.
Another way to steer clear of rogue antivirus attacks is to be careful when reading up on a hot news story. The bad guys follow Google Trends and Twitter’s Trending topics, and they can quickly promote one of their malicious Web pages to the top of Google search results.

Ray Is One Smart Universal Remote You Won’T Want To Lose
Ray is one smart universal remote you won’t want to lose
Universal remote controls are a dime a plenty and even smartphones have apps that try to perform those tasks. And yet here comes Ray, a “Super Remote” with a new look and a new promise. But why would you want to spend money on yet another remote to add to your growing (and eventually disappearing) collection? Well for one, it’s quite pretty. But more than shininess, Ray actually has a user interface that makes sense in today’s age of digital content and smart TVs.
Despite controlling smart TVs and appliances, the design of remote controls has changed very little. We’re still overwhelmed by the number of buttons to press. Those buttons don’t make much sense and can sometimes even be tedious to use with the growing number of channels and the increasingly digital nature of the content we consume. That is why Ray throws out all but 3 physical buttons to make way for a full touch screen. This makes it look more like a smartphone than a remote control. And indeed, the specs, which include a dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, and 4.8-inch 1120×480 screen would make you think so.
That setup has some benefits over the tried and tested button-based interface of most remote controls. These days, we are used to navigating through media content on our smartphones with touch-based interfaces and gestures. As the worlds of TV and mobile start to collide, it feels more natural to swipe and search through our option rather than make our fingers numb from pressing buttons. That’s the experience that Ray tries to deliver, relieving your fingers, and your brain, from having to do things the old fashioned way. Want to search for the show or channel that you want? Simply type it out instead of having to comb through channels one by one. Want to see what’s playing on your favorite channels? That’s easily done with a few taps as well. In short, Ray brings the smartness of smartphones into your remote control.
Ray is also a universal remote in every sense of the word. It can control not only It lists support for a wide range of devices from different manufacturers, from TVs to set-top boxes to DVD players and streaming devices. It can even hook up with your Xbox 360 or Xbox One. DVR support is currently limited only to Dish subscribers. WiFi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee connectivity are what makes the magic happen. Some of these devices do call for a traditional button layout, so Ray does have that on its screen as well. And before you fret, there are physical buttons for volume, mute, and power for quick, easy, and muscle memory access to the most important “no look” functions.
For all of these, Ray does carry quite a price tag. $199 to be exact. It does promise to replace all your other remote controls, though, which probably makes up for the costs. That said, you will probably treat Ray with a lot more care to make sure it doesn’t disappear into the usual remote control black holes in the living room.

Magic Eden 101: What To Know Before Creating Or Collecting
It once seemed that the Ethereum blockchain would always be the one-stop-shop for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). But times have changed since NFTs first gained mainstream attention, and the ecosystem has expanded far beyond the reach of a single blockchain. Now, NFTs are on nearly every major chain, and new NFT marketplaces are cropping up almost quarterly.
But these platforms aren’t all created equal.
Enter Magic Eden: A shiny new marketplace that does far more than facilitate transactions. With its exceptionally low transaction costs and no fees for listing NFTs, Magic Eden has become one of the strongest competitors in the NFT marketplace race.
The 101: What to know about Magic EdenMagic Eden is the most popular NFT marketplace on the Solana blockchain. Launched on September 17 of 2023, it was created as a marketplace competitor that could act as a home base for NFT collections on SOL.
The platform is widely heralded for three things: the simplicity of its tools, its focus on community, and the diversity of tokens that can be created and collected on the platform (but more on this later).
In June 2023, Magic Eden raised $130M at a valuation of $1.6 billion. It goes without saying that this is a major feat for any startup, let alone one in the blockchain industry. And the raise was doubly impressive given that NFTs and crypto had been on a downward slump for the majority of 2023. This raises some notable questions: What’s so special about Magic Eden? Why would investors so adamantly support a platform that, at the time, was barely half a year old?
Well, let’s break it down.
A screenshot of the Magic Eden website landing page taken by nft now
Usability and Magic EdenMagic Eden is one of the most user-friendly platforms on the market. It has quick processing times, solid security, and a host of compelling features that make buying and selling easy. For example, Magic Eden works hand-in-hand with creators on its Launchpad to help them create, mint, market, and successfully launch projects.
In an interview with nft now, COO Zhuoxun Yin said that the team spends a lot of its time ensuring that Magic Eden’s features are both cutting-edge and simple to use. He explained that, at the end of the day, the company needs to be focused on this blend of innovation in order to keep its product unique and stay ahead of the competition. “We aspire to be the first doing things. But that’s not just to create a headline and say we’re the first to do something. Innovation is still happening, and whoever is going to support new use cases really well is going to stand to benefit,” Yin said.
Additionally, Yin clarifies that he doesn’t just want the product to be easy to use, he wants it to be a joy to use. To this end, the platform’s team centers the user experience on exploration and discovery rather than price indexes.
“In the product experience of Magic Eden, you should be able to experience NFTs in a way without necessarily having to buy and sell them. It shouldn’t have to be a trader-focused mentality,” Yin said. “We let people discover content, play games on magic Eden…We want to be a discovery portal for the best Web3 content.”
Community-focused featuresThe next most important aspect of Magic Eden is its focus on community. Instead of expanding on the transactional nature of the NFT market, the founders of Magic Eden opted to create a user experience centered around the unique needs and desires of the creators and collectors that make up the NFT ecosystem.
How does this focus on community show up on Magic Eden? It all comes down to listening and responding. As Shan Shan puts it, “It’s not uncommon to see co-founder and CTO Sid Zhang respond to a feature request late at night, and then see that feature go live on the platform a few weeks later.”
The team’s community-centric focus is also readily seen within the Magic Eden Discord server. At 80,000+ members strong, the Discord almost feels like the hub of operations for the crew behind the influential marketplace. Anyone can join the Magic Eden community. Once there, they can also become a part of the conversation surrounding the platform’s management, initiatives, and more.
Enthusiasts are further incentivized to participate in decision-making by collecting one of Magic Eden’s Magic Ticket NFTs. These NFTs live in a collection featuring more than 30,000 tokens and grant holders access to Magic Eden’s Discord-based DAO, which is known as MagicDAO. There, community leaders deliver interconnectivity via social programs and rewards.
Yin explains this focus on community by noting that users often make the best ambassadors. “There are definitely a lot of things you can do from a top-down standpoint, but I think what’s really important is actually growing that grassroots interest and connectivity in the NFT ecosystem. I think that’s something we really do invest a lot of time and resources into. And I think we’re also really good at it,” he said.

Diversity of projects and blockchainsFinally, the diversity of projects on Magic Eden gives it a leg up on the competition. Mainly, this comes down to the variety of NFTs and experiences available on the platform and the ability to collect items cross-chain on Ethereum and Solana.
In terms of content hosted on Magic Eden, the platform excels in both PFPs and gaming. As PFP NFTs continue to maintain popularity within the NFT market, a range of these types of collections continue to dominate Magic Eden, with Okay Bears being among the most successful.
On the gaming side, Magic Eden is a great place for users to not only collect blockchain gaming NFTs, but to play games as well. With a growing roster of tokenized games, the platform is quickly becoming a one-stop shop for gaming purchases and activities.
And then there is the diversity in the blockchains. While the platform was built on Solana, in August 2023, Magic Eden announced that it planned to add and integrate Ethereum NFTs.
While we’ve seen other marketplaces like OpenSea add support for a range of NFT blockchains, Magic Eden could be one of the first to implement a cross-currency trading product to allow users to browse and purchase both Solana and Ethereum NFTs using SOL, ETH, or credit cards.
According to Huang, this move is all part of a grand vision to bring the Solana and Ethereum collector communities closer together by way of Magic Eden. “I think if you fuse these two communities together, you’ll realize it’s not really about SOL vs. ETH , but that there’s just a giant group of people who love NFTs. And we can deliver them cross-chain experiences that there are actually meaningful for them,” said Huang.
For projects on Ethereum hoping to launch a collection on Solana and vice versa, Huang says Magic Eden is the place to be. “When people realize that you’re not really constrained by a blockchain — based on the transaction currency that you use — then it’ll unlock a whole set of new experiences and potential.”
How to use Magic Eden: For creatorsSo, how do creators get started on Magic Eden? Well, there are a few different methods. It’s important to note, though, that you’ll need a Magic Eden account to both create and collect NFTs on the platform.
To set up an account on Magic Eden, you’ll need a Solana wallet. We recommend checking out Phantom, which is one of the most popular software wallets for collecting NFTs on SOL. Once you’ve created a wallet or already have one, watch Magic Eden’s video on how to connect it to their website.
And when it’s time to mint an NFT, creators can simply list their collections on the Magic Eden platform. Yep, it’s as easy as that. Whether you’ve already launched a project or have a mint coming up, you can head over to the Magic Eden Creator Hub, follow a few prompts, and submit your collection for verification. Watch the video below for an in-depth look at how this process works.
The other option for minting on Magic Eden is the platform’s launchpad. Billed as a more exclusive section of the marketplace, Magic Eden only accepts 3 percent of all Launchpad applications in an endeavor to feature only the best genuine and innovative projects.
Through the launchpad, creators can expect the greatest exposure and widest reach on the Magic Eden marketplace, more potential for secondary trading, and a hassle-free mint with dedicated development support. Again, this is a more exclusive section of the Magic Eden marketplace, and only a select few make it in.
Regardless of which avenue you travel, there are always fees associated with minting NFTs. And while you likely won’t lose out on too much SOL while creating a collection, Magic Eden employs a two-percent sales fee on the final sale price of every transaction. The platform also allows NFT creators to set their own royalty percentages — if you’re into that kind of thing.
How to use Magic Eden: For collectorsLaunching an NFT project on Magic Eden can feel a bit daunting, but collecting on the platform couldn’t be easier. If you’ve already been collecting NFTs on Ethereum or Tezos, getting started with Magic Eden and Solana should be a breeze.
Popular NFT collections on Magic EdenUnsure where to start once you’ve set yourself up to collect NFTs on Magic Eden? Here are some of the most popular collections on the platform. These should give you a sense of what the marketplace has to offer:
Okay Bears is a PFP collection that has easily become one of the most successful NFT projects on the Solana blockchain. The project has continued to solidify its place on the list of top 50 NFT projects of all time and has provided a collection similar to BAYC for enthusiasts to identify with.
DeGods is another Solana PFP success story. Second only to Okay Bears on Magic Eden, the collection has had its ups and downs but is revered as a global community of creators, developers, entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, experimenters, and innovators.
Genesis Genopets is one of the first-ever “move-to-earn” NFT games. Featuring a playable collection of 3,218 limited-edition NFTs, Genopets is the highest earning of any Magic Eden game.
The Remnants is a post-apocalyptic survivor game featuring 8,000 PFP-esque NFTs. As a play-to-earn game, The Remnants offers trading, crafting, and battling mechanics unique to the Solana blockchain.
Nyan Heroes is an NFT battle royale third-person shooter featuring cats and robots. Although the game itself is still under development, the project’s philanthropic mission to save one billion cats supercharged its path to success on Magic Eden.
Why we need Magic EdenWhen NFTs first started to become popular, collectors often used OpenSea for everything. Whether for minting, collecting, trading, or auctioning NFTs, more often than not, the “world’s first and largest” NFT marketplace was the hub for it all.
But when OpenSea, sometimes called BrokenSea, would crash or otherwise go offline, there were only a few significant alternatives for most NFT endeavors. Users were forced to choose between Nifty Gateway, Rarible, MakersPlace, and a handful of other niche platforms. And the centrality of it all left NFT enthusiasts begging for more options.
In the absence of options, platforms like Magic Eden became a sight for sore eyes to those who had grown tired of jumping through hoops to trade NFTs. Yet, as the need for more NFT marketplaces has subsided, the desire for more usability and operability has grown.
A single-method approach to creating, buying, and selling NFTs does not exist, making top NFT marketplaces like Magic Eden — which focuses on a plethora of more features than simple transaction facilitation — invaluable for the long-term health of the NFT ecosystem. And this idea of longevity truly does seem to be front of mind for Yin and the rest of the Magic Eden team.
“If we are successful, and if the NFT ecosystem is successful in the future, one of the things that I really hope for us to be is not only a big voice and influence but also, I hope that our product can be a central focal point for a lot of really interesting content,” said Yin. “In crypto, there’s always a spirit of innovation, and there are quiet periods and growth spurts. So we’re prepared for whatever environment that comes.”
