Verizon has been throttling unlimited 3G data subscribers for years now, but never 4G LTE users. Until today, when they announced this morning that beginning October 1st, the top 5% of 4G LTE data users who coincidentally meet a series of other factors will get throttled. According to DroidLife, a recent report showed that over 20% of Verizon data users were still on an unlimited data plan, so it’s no surprise that Verizon would want to push these users to a tiered data plan.
Verizon doesn’t want to call the change “throttling”, rather, they refer to as “Network Optimization”. Though the silver lining in all this is that this doesn’t mean you’re going to be “optimized” constantly. The following is the list that Verizon released that you must meet to have your data throttled:
Top 5% of data users (you use 4.7GB of data per month or more)
Enrolled on an unlimited data plan or feature
Have fulfilled their minimum contract term
Are attempting to use data on a cell site that is experiencing high demand
Basically, the chance of getting throttled only kicks in when you use about 5GB of data a month. After that, you must be in an area that is experiencing high data traffic. So chances are if you in the middle of Manhattan on a Tuesday, expect some slowdowns during peak hours. Rather, these policy chances shouldn’t effect you too much if you’re located in a rural Ohio.

As of March 2014, the top 5% of data users were using 4.7 GB or more of data each month.

Another day, another iPhone rumor–so is this one for real? The current buzz around the blogosphere is that Apple is preparing to offer its iPhone over Verizon’s network, therein ending its thus-far-exclusive arrangement with AT&T. Before you immediately believe the hype, allow me to provide a few reasons to think twice.

Update [Oct 1]: Fresh rumors surfacing from China courtesy of tipster MMDDJ now suggest this device will be called the Galaxy A6s. Interestingly, it is this same tipster who first gave out information about the SM-G6200 device as the Galaxy P30 and while he doesn’t dismiss the existence of the latter, the tipster now says SM-G6200 is a certain Galaxy A6s. On the other hand, it has also been touted that the P30 will be launched as the A6s.

In the same tweet, there’s also the SM-A9200, a device he terms as the Galaxy A9s and is said to be the previously rumored Galaxy A9 Star Pro. The market already has a Galaxy A6, A6+, A9 Star, A9 Star Lite, and now A6s and A9s? That for sure sounds like Samsung right?

Said to be a part of the new Galaxy P series, it is rumored to have an in-display fingerprint sensor and will be launched within this year. If this is the case, the new phone, dubbed Galaxy P30, will outstrip Galaxy S10 in the race to the in-screen touch sensor and will become the first Samsung phone to clinch this much-in-trend title.
The device is said to have an LCD display with an optical display-based finger-impression sensor.
While the P30 moniker has not yet been confirmed, Samsung has, in all certainty, registered an in-display fingerprint sensor phone with the model number SM-G6200.
Also, as the rumor mills have been working overtime to dig up more details on the Galaxy P30, it was only natural that the specs will be out soon. Expected to come in 4 color variants and 2 storage options, this Samsung device is expected to hit all the marks of a mid-range smartphone.
