Microsoft has released Windows 10 build 20236 for PCs enrolled in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program. This is the preview number 35 rolling out to testers, and it’s an update that introduces some design changes, features, and fixes that are expected to arrive with version 21H1 and future releases.

Windows 10 build 20236, according to the company, ships with a redesigned version of the Emoji Picker that includes more emojis, and support for more languages, kaomojis, and symbols. Also, the experience added a new tab to manage the clipboard history and another tab to insert animated GIFs.

Here are all the new features and changes available with build 20236.

Emoji Picker with clipboard history and GIFs integration

Windows 10 introduces a new version of its Emoji Picker that integrates the clipboard history and adds support for animated GIFs, in addition to support for more languages, kaomojis, and symbols.

The new picker has a modern design using Fluent Design visual elements, such as blur and transparency. It now includes an inline search box to make it easier to discover emojis and animated GIFs, which will be continuously updated based on current trends and hashtags.

Since the Emoji Picker is integrating the clipboard history, you can now insert emojis and copies from a single experience using the “Windows key + .” or “Windows key + ;” or “Windows key + V” keyboard shortcuts.

New Voice Typing optimized for touch keyboards

Starting with build 20236, Windows 10 is introducing Windows Voice Typing, which is a new version of the Windows Dictation feature that allows you to type using your voice.

In this new version, you’ll find a modern design that has been optimized for touch keyboards. Auto-punctuation to help you focus on writing rather than thinking about question marks and periods. Also, the experience  has been updated to offer a more reliable experience.

You can give it a try using the “Windows key + H” keyboard shortcut.

The Voice Typing feature is available on English (US), English (Australia), English (India), English (Canada), English (United Kingdom), French (France), French (Canada), Portuguese (Brazilian), Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (Spanish), German, Italian, and Japanese.

Touch keyboard new design and improvements

In addition, Windows 10 build 20236 ships a new touch keyboard design that features a new fresh aesthetic and several tweaks, including updated key sizes and layouts to optimize for typing comfort and accuracy. Also, there are some design improvements to help users discover and use the features.

All entries in the settings menu now have labels for improved clarity of available options. The touch keyboard also includes emoji and GIFs search, and there is a new option to use voice typing to the left of the space bar in supported languages.

Also, you can now change the cursor position with the touch keyboard in any text field using gestures on the space bar. Place a finger on the space bar and slide your finger left, right, up, or down. As the finger moves, so will the cursor (one character or line at a time).

Task Manager tweaks

When setting focus to Windows Explorer in the Processes tab of Task Manager, Windows 10 is updating the keyboard shortcut for the Restart option to “Alt + R.”

Narrator improvements

Finally, when annotated content and linked control Narrator commands are invoked in context which doesn’t have any linked controls available, the Narrator will now say “No linked item.”

Although the company is officially introducing a new Emoji Picker, Voice Typing, and touch keyboard experience, these features will only be available for a subset of testers.

Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 11 build 22593 for devices enrolled in the Dev and Beta Channels of the Windows Insider Program. This is another update that brings more new features, improvements, and a slew of fixes that are likely to arrive with version 22H2. 

According to the official changes, build 22593 for Windows 11 brings an updated version of File Explorer with a new homepage, improves Snap layouts, notifies users whether the memory integrity feature is turned on, and there are a bunch of new fixes.

Here are all the new features and improvements for the latest release of Windows 11 in the Dev and Beta Channels:

File Explorer

Windows 11 build 22593 introduces an updated version of File Explorer that introduces a new default home page. Technically, Microsoft renamed the “Quick access” page to “Home.” However, the “Quick access” name will now be the name of the first section in “Home,” and the “Pinned files” section is now called “Favorites.”

Furthermore, the recent and pinned files sections are now searchable using the search box in File Explorer, even if they are not local files.

Taskbar Focus

As part of the Focus features, build 22593 adds 5-minute increments for everything under a half-hour to focus session length options.

Snap layouts

If you press the “Windows key + Z” keyboard shortcut to open Snap layouts, the layouts will now appear with numbers to make them easier to identify.

Windows Security

Windows 11 will now notify you that the Core isolation feature to protect the memory integrity is disabled, so you can turn it back on to protect your computer against malicious attacks.


Microsoft Journal will now come pinned by default on the “Pen” menu. If you don’t have the app installed, it will be installed from the Microsoft Store if chosen on the Pen menu.

The ADLaM keyboard layout adds access to brackets and ADLaM Hamza. To access these:

Fixed an issue where app icons were unexpectedly animating from the upper left when launching a new app.

Improved the performance of rearranging taskbar icons.

Addressed an issue in the previous flight leading to duplicate app icons after closing and re-opening an app.

If you have a lot of apps open, the icons shouldn’t overlap the date and time on your secondary monitors anymore.

The taskbar will no longer disappear when you enter search over a full-screen window.

Fixed an issue that was causing icon spacing to invert so that it was large when it should be small and vice versa when switching in and out of the tablet-optimized taskbar.

The tablet-optimized taskbar will now stay visible over full-screen apps when expanded and only hide when you collapse it.

If you have multiple keyboards for your current language, the input indicator will now only show one row of text when the tablet-optimized taskbar is in a collapsed state, so that it doesn’t get clipped.

Fixed a crash that was causing the taskbar to get stuck in the tablet-optimized taskbar view.

Settings will now remember your taskbar’s auto-hide setting more consistently.

Mitigated an issue where some app icons in the system tray which were expected to flash weren’t doing that.

Fixed an issue causing system tray icons to get stuck there even after you closed the application.

Made a fix for an issue where some mouse move events weren’t being passed to apps for icons in the system tray.

Addressed an issue leading to a decrease in Notification Center launch reliability in recent flights.

Mitigated an issue causing the Notification Center and its context to sometimes show the wrong color text for the system’s theme, making it unreadable.

Updated the names of some of the months in the Simplified and Traditional Chinese lunar calendar to be more accurate.

Start menu

Updated the design of the folders in Start so that they’re a little bigger, making it easier to see the app icons highlighted within the folder without having to open it.

Fixed an issue where if you created a folder in Start in the same position as a deleted folder, it would show the old name.

If you tab into naming a folder in Start with your keyboard, you can now tab back out instead of having to hit Esc.

Fixed an issue where when using the keyboard to select options following WIN + X didn’t work. And dismissing WIN + X should be more consistent now.

The search icon in the taskbar should no longer unexpectedly flash when closing the Start menu.


Made some improvements to help with the search indexer thread and memory usage for users with a very high number of indexed items.

Fixed an issue impacting search reliability (where you would type into the search window or Start and nothing would happen) in recent flights.

Made another fix to help address an issue where the search searches flyout could get stuck on the screen in a transparent area.

File Explorer

Improved performance of loading Home in File Explorer.

Fixed a scaling issue where the context menu could be an unexpected size when invoking it on systems with mixed DPI monitors.

Did some work to help reduce the chance you will see “Loading” for app entries in the context menu.

Fixed an issue that was causing the “Open in Windows Terminal” context menu option to be unexpectedly missing for secondary users in some cases.

Opening suggested results shown while entering search terms in File Explorer’s search box should now work as expected.

Mitigated an underlying issue leading to the address bar being inaccessible in certain cases.

Mitigated an issue leading to increased launch time for certain file types in the previous flight.

Fixed an issue where the IME toolbar wasn’t hiding and showing correctly when using the previous version of the Japanese IME.

Improved voice typing reliability.

Updated voice typing error message “Voice typing is limited on this app” to be “Some voice typing features might not work in this app”, so it’s a little clearer than basic voice typing will still work.

Fixed an issue causing some voice typing commands not to work, for example, “scratch that” (刮除它) in Chinese (Simplified).

Fixed an issue causing the Get-InstalledLanguage and Install-Language PowerShell commands to unexpectedly fail with error 0x8007023E for some languages.


Addressed another issue that could cause Windows Spotlight to unexpectedly stop updating for a prolonged period of time.

Fixed an issue that was causing the Settings app to crash when going to focus settings.

Fixed an issue where leaving the contrast themes editor in Settings by selecting the breadcrumbs would clear the dropdown selection, but the buttons were still acting as if you had a theme selected.

Addressed an issue that was preventing Quick Settings from launching with its new touch gesture.

Quick Settings will now show the correct icon to represent your audio output device again.

Using drag and drop to reorder your Desktops via the Desktop flyout should no longer leave a thumbnail of the Desktop you moved stuck on the screen.

Voice access

Fixed a crash that was impacting voice access reliability.

Addressed an issue that was preventing voice access’s speech models from downloading correctly.

Live captions

Addressed an underlying issue leading to live captions showing a download error, even though the download had actually been completed successfully.

Live captions will now remember your chosen settings for position across sessions.

Mitigated an issue where the position of the live caption changed to floating when entering full screen, but the settings incorrectly showed the last position still.

Removed the live captions notification about audio playing from multiple apps as it was popping up repeatedly during usage.

The border of the live captions window will now match the style of all other borders in contrast themes.


Dixed the issue that was causing natural voices to break up sporadically in recent builds.

Narrator will now read out the word minutes with the duration times listed in Settings for focus options.

Fixed an issue that was causing the Narrator to read dialog buttons incorrectly in scan mode.

Task Manager

Removed backplate (colored square) from UWP app icons were displayed in Task Manager.

Mitigated an issue where one side of the View button did not appear to do anything.

Fixed an issue that was causing the real-time update speed to get set to Paused on its own. Please note, if you were impacted by this, you will need to make a one-time change to set the setting back to your preferred update speed after upgrading to this build.

Other fixes

Mitigated an issue that was leading to a black (albeit interactable) screen when playing certain full-screen games with Auto HDR enabled.

Fixed a memory leak in Connected Devices Platform User Service.

The volume and brightness flyouts you get when using your hardware keys will no longer show a focus window outline on top of them.

If WIN + Alt + K is pressed when a supported app isn’t running, the pop-up text displayed will now say “No supported apps in use for mic mute”, instead of “Mic mute unavailable”, so it’s clearer.

Addressed an issue that was leading to unexpected errors being displayed in Event Viewer when chúng tôi was activated.

The April 2023 Update (version 1803) has reached the end of support on November 12, 2023, but the company has released update KB4580330 to address problems while bumping the version number to build 17134.1792.

The version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) is no longer supported, but organizations running the Enterprise or Education edition of Windows 10 are getting update KB4580328 to address a several issues and bumps the version number to 16299.2166.

In addition, Microsoft has ended support for Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update), but organizations with computers still running this release can now download KB4580370, which resolves a few issues. Also, the update ramps the version number to build 15063.2525.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) is getting update KB4580346 to address serveral issues, even though operating system is no longer supported, and the quality update bumps the version number to build 14393.3986. 

Finally, the original release of Windows 10 (version 1507) is getting update KB4580327. The release increase the version number to 10240.18725 and fixes several problems.

If the KB4579311 update is causing issues on your device, you can always uninstall it to revert the changes.

To uninstall KB4579311, or any other update, use these steps:

Open Start.

Type the following command to view the update history and press Enter:

wmic qfe list brief /format:table

Check the Windows Update history of your device, and identify the update by its HotFixID and InstalledOn information.

Type the following command to uninstall the update from your computer and press Enter:

wusa /uninstall /kb:4579311

In the command, replace “4579311” for KB number that correspond to the update that you’re trying to uninstall. For example, if you’re trying to uninstall update KB4579311, then the number that you can have to use in the command is “4579311.”

Continue with the on-screen directions (if applicable).

Once you complete the steps, the recently installed update will be removed from your computer fixing any issues as a result of the release.

If your computer won’t boot after installing KB4579311, you can remove update from the Advanced startup environment using these steps.

If you remember, back in May, we told you that Microsoft was gearing up to release a brand-new mini PC designed to improve Windows on Arm called Project Volterra.

And, while everyone was focusing on native Arm support for Visual Studio 2023 and VS Code, the Redmond tech company was creating an Arm-native toolchain.

Support for this includes full Visual Studio 2023 & VS Code, Visual C++, Modern .NET 6 and Java, Classic .NET Framework, Windows Terminal, and WSL and WSA for running Linux and Android apps.

It looks like the time has finally come and Microsoft is launching its own version of the Mac Mini today with a price that many will find a bit spicy.

The new mini Windows PC is great for building ARM apps for Windows 11

The truth is that you will have to dig deep in your pockets and pull out a whopping $599 for this mini PC that’s designed for developers to build native ARM apps for Windows 11.

Previously known as Project Volterra, the Windows Dev Kit 2023 is already available today in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the US.

So, developers will now be able to purchase this highly-coveted device, but really anyone wanting a miniature Windows on Arm machine can buy one as well.

What are the Windows Dev Kit 2023 specs?

Well, if you are interested in buying one, know that the Windows Dev Kit 2023 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 platform with 32GB of RAM and 512GB of NVMe storage.

Another week, another build for Windows 10 Preview. This time, Microsoft pushed build 14951 to Insiders on both PC and Mobile. The new build brought a handful of improvements for various Windows 10 features, and fixed some of the known issues from the previous builds.

However, build 14951 also caused some problems of its own to users who installed. Microsoft already warned us about some potential problems in the build announcement article, but as usual, that’s not enough. In reality, there are many more issues bugging Insiders, than just those that Microsoft listed under ‘Known Issues.’

So, we wandered around Microsoft’s forums, in order to find problems reported by actual users, and we found a lot of them. In this article, we’re going to tell you about these problems, and try to solve at least some of them.

Windows 10 Preview build 14951 reported issues

It’s a tradition here at Windows Report to start our report articles with installation issues. Well, users have experience all sorts of installation problems when trying to install build 14951. Some of them reported installation fails, some reported stuck installation, while the build haven’t even show up for some users.

Here’s what Insiders said on the forums:

“Hi, windows updates is not showing nor downloading any windows 10 build 14951 for me. I tried to do it last night but wasent showing it so I decided to wait till today to try again and it is still not showing. Please could I have help to fix the problem?”

“I found the computer locked with 73% installed for 2 hours. I then did a manual restart and now the computer will not update.”

Reportedly, the problem is already acknowledged by Microsoft, and we hope the company will fix it with the upcoming release. Until then, you can try resetting Windows Update, disabling your third-party antivirus program, or even skipping this one.

All these problems occurred on Windows 10 PCs, however, it looks like the same issue is present on Mobile, as well. Microsoft also acknowledged the problem immediately, and promised a solution to arrive soon. Here’s what Microsoft’s Jason [MS] said on the forums:

“We’ve just launched build 14951 to the Fast ring today and we’re seeing reports from users staying their device is not progressing past “0% downloading” on the update screen. 

We encourage Windows Insiders to file feedback or upvote feedback from others.  We’ve started digging through the logs we have already received to investigate the issue.

One Insider reported on the forums that he’s unable to connect to internet in build 14951, regardless of the browser.

“The new build 14951 has the same problems as 14942/14946 : intermittent internet, many sites dont load up, if they did its garbage, bad full screen performance in games, bad video playback, etc. Once I roll back to 14936 , everything is fine.”

Issues with Windows 10 Enterprise mode are not so common in Windows 10 Insider program. However, we saw one in build 14951. One user reported that the latest three Preview builds broke DirectAccess. Here’s what he said about this issue:

“The last three Insider builds has broken DirectAccess.  I know that it is all functional on the server side, but I am unable to connect to any resources.  I cannot ping by name any resources on our network.  It has been forcing me to revert to prior builds until this gets fixed.  Anyone else having this issue?”

Other forum users have suggested some solution, but apparently, none of them worked. We also don’t have a proper workaround for this problem, so admins facing the issues with DirectAccess will probably have to wait for another build.

Another user have experienced problems with removing SD card from his SD card slot. Here’s what he said on the forums:

“there is system crash in ejecting sd card slot in preview build 14951…this issue did not fix in build 14951 … i experienced this issue in build 14946 … reported in feedback hub…is there any solution from the help community?…”

Now, let’s talk about problems that bugs Insiders on Mobile devices. Besides above-mentioned installation issues, there are a few more problems that deserve to be in our report article.

The first problem is the issue with display, which reportedly won’t time out for some users. Here’s what one user reported on the forums:

“Updated my Lumia 950 from latest production software yesterday, now after 10 hours of use i find out that screen won’t time-out and is still on. When i power screen off via power button then it doesn’t show glance, it’s turned off of course, but the problem is when i power the screen on again – it skips the lockscreen and shows start immediately, which means no Iris scanning, no PIN request, just open my phone to anyone.”  

And finally, one user reported that he’s unable to download a new keyboard language pack on his Windows 10 Mobile device:

“After update to 14951 from RS1 14393.321 I tryed to download additional language keyboard. Same situation started as in 14946 – download stop on 0%, doesn´t continue. So I think there is problem with additional languages download”

Just like it was the case with the majority of problems reported here, other Insiders remained silent about this issue on the forums.
