Sometimes you may find that your Windows 11/10 is stuck with Windows Update status being displayed as Pending install, Pending download, Initializing, Downloading, Installing or Awaiting install. This post explains what these terms mean. If you face this issue, here’s what you can do to resolve the issue.

All Windows Update stages have a status. While they may get displayed under normal circumstances, they do get displayed when the update process is stuck. It can be because of the settings on the computer, or it could be because of the users choice. These are the types of Windows Update status you may see:

Pending Download

Pending install

Awaiting install

1] Windows Update status Pending download

What it means:

Windows now offers to notify the user that there is an update available for your computer. Unless it’s a critical security update, it will not download the update.

How to fix the issue:

However, If you want to change this to automatic download, and want Windows to do any of the following, then you can configure your Group Policy settings:

Notify for download and auto-install

Auto download and notify for install

Auto download and schedule the install

Allow local admin to choose the setting

Choose the second option so that download can happen in the background, and you get notified about its installation.

The setting also offers you to schedule install day, and time to complete the installation. You can also choose to install on a particular day, allowing you to update on certain days when you do not have work.

There is an additional reason which could cause this — Metered connection. If you are connected to broadband which is marked as metered connection, then it will not download the update. However, it will have a clear mention of Metered connection issue. Here is how to change the metered connection status.

2] Windows Update Status Downloading

What it means:

While it means that it’s connected with Windows Update servers and initiating the download, but if it’s stuck for long on any percentage, then we have a problem. Usually, updates don’t take long to download but can get stuck if there is an issue with the Software Update folders in your computer or Windows Update service.

How to fix the issue:

Windows has completed downloading the update and is waiting for it to install. There can be multiple reasons why an update gets into the pending stage.

A manual restart is required

Active Hours

Group Policy Settings

How to fix the issue:

It is easy to fix this issue. The first option is where you go ahead and install the update manually. Simply restart your computer to do this.

The second is a classic scenario. If you shut down your computer within Active Hours, it will never install the updates. So either you change Active Hours or install it manually.

The third is using Group Policy Setting — Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation.

Type chúng tôi to open Group Policy Editor.

Locate policy Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation.

When the status is set to Enabled, Automatic Updates will immediately install these updates once they are downloaded and ready to install.

You will have to make sure to Configure Automatic Updates policy and keep it enabled. We talked about it at the above point.

4] Windows Update status Awaiting install

What it means:

It means it’s waiting for a specific condition to full fill. It can be because there is a previous update pending, or the computer is Active Hours, or a restart is required.

How to fix the issue:

If the update stays in that place for days, then it needs a fix. Try the following-

Check if there is another update pending, If yes, then install it first.

Check if the status remains the same by disabling Active Hours

Restart the Windows Update Service. In the command prompt, type

net stop wuauserv

regsvr32 %windir%system32wups2.dll

net start wuauserv

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter.

5] Windows Update Status Initializing

What it means:

It means that Windows Update process is getting ready to install the update, and preparing for any pre-requisites. It can including checking on storage space, dependent files, and more.

How to fix the issue:

If the update status stays on Initializing for a couple of days, follow these tips to resolve the error.

Restart Windows and then restart Windows Update service as explained above.

Run SFC and DISM command to fix any corruption.

Clear the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. The download will start again when you do so.

6] Windows Update Status Installing

What it means:

It means, all preparations had been done, and the Windows Update system is now installing the update. You should see a progress bar, with percentage.

How to fix the issue:

If the status is installing for long, there is not much you can do except for the following:

Clear the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. Restart the computer, and it will start downloading the update again.

Restart Windows Update, BITS, and CryptSvc services, by executing the following commands in the same sequence.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Android 5.1.1 Update: T335Xxu1Bof8 Firmware Download With Install Instructions

Samsung Android 5.1.1 update release continues in full flow, as today Galaxy Tab 4 8.0-inch LTE edition became the first tablet to run the 5.1 Android OS. The update comes in the form of build no. T335XXU1BOF8, and once installed, should prevent downgrade back to Android 5.0.

The update belongs to Switzerland, and if that’s where you are using your 8-incher Tab 4, you should be receiving the OTA update soon enough. The OTA update outside of Switzerland could be happening shortly too, depending on the success rate or feedback of this update.

if you don’t like waiting for the OTA rollout in Switzerland or any other country you’re in, you cna install this very Android 5.1.1 update on your Galaxy Tab 4 LTE, 8-inch one of course, after making sure that your tab’s model no. is exact SM-T355. For this, download the 5.1 update firmware from here, and then use the instructions given here Galaxy S6 to update your Tab 4, it would work all fine!

Supported devices

SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 4 8.0-inch LTE edition (model no. SM-T355)

Don’t try this on any other Samsung Galaxy device with a different model no. than above!

Don’t try on any other device whatsoever!

Disclamer: Installing an official firmware through Odin doesn’t void your device’s warranty, but it remains an unofficial process and thus you need to be cautious of it. In any case, you only are responsible for your device. We won’t be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Backup important files stored on your device before proceeding with the steps below, so that in case something goes wrong you’ll have backup of all your important files. Sometimes, Odin installation may delete everything on your device!

This is a very simple method to upgrade to Android 5.1, as it requires no preparation. Just install and you are done. But, you won’t be able to downgrade back to Android 4.4! Moreover, root access isn’t available for Android 5.1 yet.

(Note: If you want the ability to downgrade to 4.4 and root thereafter, don’t use this method. Instead, look for method 2 on this page.)

You should get the a file in chúng tôi format now (T335XXU1BOF8_T335OXA1BOF8_T335XXU1BOF3_HOME.tar.md5). We will be loading this file into Odin, to be installed on your Tab 4 (in step 10 below).

Extract the Odin file. You should get this file, Odin3 chúng tôi (other files could be hidden, hence not visible).

Disconnect your Tab 4 from PC if it is connected.

Boot Galaxy Tab 4 into download mode:

Power off your Tab 4. Wait 6-7 seconds after screen goes off.

Press and hold the three buttons Volume Down + Power + Home together until you see warning screen.

Press Volume Up to continue to download mode.

Connect your Tab 4 to PC now using USB cable. Odin should recognize your Tab 4. It’s a must. When it recognizes, you will see Added!! message appearing in the Log box in bottom left, and the first box under ID:COM will also show a no. and turn its background blue. Look at the pic below.

You cannot proceed until you get the Added!! message, which confirms that Odin has recognized your device.

If you don’t get Added!! message, you need to install/re-install drivers again, and use the original cable that came with device. Mostly, drivers are the problem (look at step 2 above).

If Odin gets stuck at setup connection, then you need to do steps 6 to 12 again. For this, close Odin, disconnect your device, remove battery, insert it back after 5-6 seconds and then start from step 6 again.

That’s it. Enjoy the T335XXU1BOF8 Android 5.1.1 firmware, or call it OF8 in short, on your Tab 4!

This method retains your device’s ability to downgrade easily when needed. So that you can also root your Galaxy S6 after downgrading, as root is available on Android 4.4 builds. But you need root access for this method.

(Note: If you DO NOT want the ability to downgrade to 4.4 and root thereafter, don’t use this method. Instead, look for method 1 on this page that is easy and doesn’t require root access, but you will lose ability to downgrade, while we think root will be available soon anyway, more or less.)

Download the firmware file from above.

You should get the a file in chúng tôi format now (T335XXU1BOF8_T335OXA1BOF8_T335XXU1BOF3_HOME.tar.md5). We will be loading this file into Odin, to be installed on your Tab 4 (in step 10 below).

Connect your Tab 4 to PC, and transfer the tar file to device. Remember the location where you save it.

Disconnect the tab, and download the Flashfire android app that we will use to flash the firmware in tar format:

Login into Google using the same Gmail ID that you are using on device. Go to Google+ page and join the community.

Next, sign up here to be able to install the app from play store and receive updates.

Use the play store link provided thereafter to get to pay store page of the app and install it. It may take hours before it shows up for you in play store. You can only wait.

Open the Flashfire app. Provide it root permissions by tapping on Grant on the pop-up that shows up. And tap on Agree button on the Disclaimer pop-up that comes only one time. (Tip: Read the Instructions section, it’s helpful.)

→ Take care to NOT select Preload/Hidden and Modem partition, otherwise you could brick your device.

On main screen, tap on EverRoot, and un-tick all options. Hit checkmark button, of course, then.

Leave process cache as it is.

Important! Btw, it seems Flashfire reboots the device before completely finish the process. To prevent that, there’s a small trick, keep hitting volume up/down every few seconds. Take care of this!

Once done, your Tab 4 will reboot automatically and you shall see downgrade-able Android 5.1.1 update running. If you find an issue wherein you get stuck with the setup, or it hangs on Samsung’s logo, then just do the factory reset from the recovery mode. Here’s how:

Press and hold Power + Home + Volume down until screen goes off, and then quickly slide your finger from Volume down to Volume up while still holding the other two buttons while device tries to restart, to reboot into recovery mode.

In recovery mode, use volume buttons to move the selection highlight to wipe data/factory reset option, and then press power button to select it. Confirm with Yes on next screen. When done, you will be back at recovery’s home screen.

Select Reboot system now to restart the device. It will work alright this time around.

That would be it. Soon enough, you would have the Android 5.1 firmware running on your Tab 4. Enjoy! And do share this page with anyone who you think would find it useful.

How To Install Windows 10 November 2023 (21H2) Update Right Now

After the release of Windows 11, Microsoft has moved to a yearly update cycle for Windows 10. However, before that change goes into effect next year, it has released the Windows 11 November 2023 (21H2) update to users. If you are running Windows 10, you can update to the latest Windows 10 November 2023 build right away. Generally, Microsoft rolls out major updates in a phased manner, and it might take some time before the update reaches your PC. So if you want to jump the line and try out the latest Windows 10 21H2 update right now, follow the instructions below. We have included two methods to install the Windows 10 November 2023 update on your PC.

In this article, we have mentioned two ways to install the Windows 10 21H2 build on your PC. Based on your expertise, you can move to the desired section from the table below. Also, we have listed all the new features in Windows 10 November 2023 build. So without further ado, let’s dive right in!

The Windows 10 November 2023 release is a feature update, but there are not many user-facing additions to this build. Except for the fact that you get WPA3 H2E standard support for better security while connecting to a Wi-Fi network. WPA3 brings enhanced security than the traditional WPA2 security protocol used on routers, even when you are using a simple password for your Wi-Fi.

Apart from that, users who are on Windows 10 version 2004 or later will be able to install the November update much faster. Besides that, Microsoft has mentioned these changes in its official blog post.

Adding WPA3 H2E standards support for enhanced Wi-Fi security

Faster update installation for users who are on Windows 10, version 2004 or later

Windows Hello for Business introduces a new deployment method called cloud trust to support simplified passwordless deployments and achieve a deploy-to-run state within a few minutes

GPU compute support in the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows (EFLOW) deployments for machine learning and other compute intensive workflows

1. Open the Settings page using the Windows 11 keyboard shortcut “Windows + I”. Then, move to “Update & Security“.

That’s it. After downloading the update, restart your PC, and you will move to Windows 10 November 2023 build. If you have not gotten the 21H2 update yet, move to the next section.

The easiest way to update your PC to the latest Windows 10 21H2 build is through the official Windows Update Assistant. You don’t need to create any bootable USB or worry about wiping data. This method installs the update over your existing Windows 10 build and keeps files and programs intact. Here is how you go about it.

4. Finally, the Update Assistant will start downloading the Windows 10 21H2 build on your PC.

5. Post that, it will automatically install the update and ask you to restart the PC. Now, you will be upgraded to the Windows 10 November 2023 build without much effort.

Install Windows 10 (21H2) November 2023 Build With Bootable USB

4. After downloading the ISO image of the Windows 10 November 2023 build, go ahead and download Rufus (Free). It’s a free utility that allows you to create a USB bootable drive. In case you find Rufus needlessly complex, check out other Rufus alternatives from this curated list.

7. To install Windows 10 November 2023 build from a USB drive, you need to restart your computer. As your PC boots up, you will need to start pressing the boot key continuously.

Note: On HP laptops, pressing the “Esc” key during startup brings up the Startup menu. For other laptops and desktops, you will have to look for the boot key on the Internet. It should be one of these: F12, F9, F10, etc.

8. Then, press “F9” (the key can be different for your laptop/ desktop) to open “Boot Device Options”. Here, select the thumb drive that you created and hit Enter.

10. On the next page, choose “I don’t have a product key“.

11. After that, you might be asked to select the Windows 10 edition. If you are using a laptop with activated Windows, the edition will be selected automatically based on your earlier configuration.

14. Finally, Windows 10 November 2023 build will be installed from the USB drive to your PC.

15. After the installation, your PC will reboot automatically. During the bootup process, remove the USB thumb drive, and you will boot into Windows 10 November 2023 build. Enjoy!

HMD Global has really stepped up their game in terms of pricing and specifications offered on their devices this year. What’s even better is the fact that the latest Android 9 Pie is available for Nokia 6.1 Plus users via an OTA update.
