Xbox Game Pass on Nintendo Switch? Don’t get your hopes up

Xbox Game Pass is a pretty great service if you’ve got an Xbox One, and just recently we saw it expand to PC as well. That jump to PC and Microsoft’s cross-platform ambitions have left people wondering if the company will try to bring Xbox Game Pass to even more platforms. The Nintendo Switch specifically has been the subject of some recent Game Pass rumors, but Xbox chief Phil Spencer unfortunately poured some cold water on those reports during an interview at E3 2023.

Back in February, it was rumored that Microsoft was looking to bring Xbox Game Pass to Nintendo Switch. While that was definitely a surprising report, the fact that Microsoft and Nintendo have been working on a number of initiatives together lent it some credibility. For instance, Microsoft brought Minecraft Bedrock Edition to the Switch, with Nintendo allowing cross-platform play. Then, of course, we have the recent announcement that Banjo-Kazooie – a duo owned by Microsoft – are coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The notion that Microsoft and Nintendo have a friendly relationship these days certainly makes Xbox Game Pass on the Switch seem plausible, but Xbox lead Phil Spencer says that it’s not a focus at the moment. In his annual E3 interview with Giant Bomb’s Jeff Gerstmann, Spencer had a lot of praise to lavish on Nintendo and the Switch but confirmed that bringing game streaming to Android is the top priority right now.

“I have said over time I’d like to take Game Pass everywhere – I saw somebody joke I’d put Game Pass on a toaster if I could; I don’t know about that,” Spencer said. “But we’re focused – on the streaming side, at least – on Android just because in some ways it’s the hardest for us because it’s so diverse in terms of the number of devices.”

Spencer continued on by saying that he loves “the role that Nintendo plays in the industry,” and by noting that the two companies have a good relationship before diving into why bringing Xbox Game Pass to Switch probably isn’t very likely at this point in time: “That platform is different enough from an Xbox platform that it’s not trivial for us just to say ‘Okay all those games would run there.'”

“So, then you’re like ‘Okay, are we going to stream the games to there?'” he continued. “I love what Switch is, but the opportunity globally to focus on an Android platform is just such a natural first move for us – and frankly will take us quite a while to work through that.” Spencer wrapped up by saying that, for now at least, it’s hard for Microsoft to “prioritize different than we are today.”

So, even though Spencer kind of shot down the idea of Xbox Game Pass on the Switch in the immediate future, that was definitely more positive than many of us were probably expecting. He’s definitely right when he recognizes that bringing a service like Project xCloud to Android devices is something that’s going to take a long time, and while that means there won’t be a focus on what kind of Microsoft services can make the jump to Nintendo Switch, it seems like he’s not ruling out the possibility entirely.

For now, though, you’ll have to get your Game Pass kicks either on Xbox One or on PC. During its E3 2023 press conference, Microsoft launched the PC version of Game Pass into beta, releasing it at an introductory price of $4.99 per month. You can find Gerstmann’s full interview with Phil Spencer embedded above, with the segment quoted in this article beginning shortly after the 28-minute mark.

What Is Xbox Game Pass?

Xbox Game Pass is a game subscription service for Xbox and Windows 10 that lets members download and play a wide library of games for free so long as they stay subscribed to the service. Think of it as the Netflix for Xbox games.

Xbox Game Pass started off small but it has quickly grown to be a great offering at a very reasonable price, and it’s an interesting opportunity to get access to a large selection of games on a budget.

Table of Contents

Let’s take a deeper look what Xbox Games Pass is, how it works, and how you can get the most out of it if you plan to subscribe.

Xbox Game Pass Overview – Pricing & Available Games

The two most important things to learn about the Xbox Game Pass is the pricing and the available game catalog for Game Pass subscribers.

Without any deals considered, the Xbox Game Pass for console costs $9.99 per month. Alternatively, you can take out an Xbox Game Pass subscription for PC that only costs $4.99 per month. There’s a higher tier subscription we’ll explain later that bundles in both PC and console, but first let’s go over the basics.

The library of games for Xbox Game Pass members is quite extensive. It includes existing Xbox Game Studio titles such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Gears 5, or upcoming titles like Bleeding Edge and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

It should also be made clear that this gives you access to download the games to your console or PC to play from your device. This isn’t a cloud gaming service like Project xCloud, so your performance should be much better.

All upcoming Xbox Game Studio titles like Halo Infinite will be available on the Xbox Game Pass on day one of release. Besides that, dozens of third party titles are available on Xbox Game Pass. This includes older games like Minecraft and Darksiders 3, and newer titles like The Outer Worlds and RAGE 2.

There’s no restriction or limit to how many games you can play or how long you can play for. As long as you are an Xbox Game Pass member, you have unlimited access to over a hundred included titles.

The games library for Windows 10 PC users will be different, but there are similarities, including new Xbox Game Studio titles and a catalog of over a hundred games. Xbox Game Pass for PC is certainly amongst the best Windows 10 game subscription services.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate vs Xbox Game Pass

Whilst the standard price for an Xbox Game Pass subscription is $9.99, another pricing tier called Xbox Game Pass Ultimate may be of more interest to you. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription costs $44.99/quarterly, so $14.99 per month.

For an extra $5 over the standard Xbox Game Pass, the benefits are well worth considering. You get access to both PC and console games on the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and an Xbox Live Gold membership is included. Which, by comparison, costs $9.99 per month on its own.

If you already pay for Xbox Live Gold, paying for the Ultimate Game Pass tier may actually save you money over subscribing to both the standard Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold separately.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will also get other benefits upon subscribing. These offers include 1 month of EA Access, 2 months of Discord Nitro, and 6 months of Spotify Premium. These benefits are part of a one-time welcome offer.

Xbox Game Pass Deals & Special Offers

Whilst Xbox Live Gold will remain an option for those who just want to play Xbox games online, Xbox is clearly pushing their new Game Pass subscriptions hard. So much so that they are offering some great welcome deals for new Xbox Game Pass members.

If you sign up for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the first time, you can get the first three months for just $1. After the initial three month period, the $44.99 quarterly price will start, but you can cancel at anytime before that.

There currently aren’t any offers for the Xbox Game Pass standard subscription for console, but if you keep an eye out, there are regularly offers available. For now, Xbox is pushing people to sign up to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate instead.

If you only want to play PC games, the Xbox Game Pass PC subscription currently has a great offer you’d be interested in. You can get the first month for $1 and then further months are just $4.99.

Bonus Features Xbox Game Pass Members Get

You don’t only get access to a digital game library with Xbox Game Pass. If you want to purchase a game from the Game Pass catalog permanently, you can save up to 20% on the digital price of the game. On top of this, any digital purchases or add-ons for those games will also be available for up to 10% off the standard price.

If you become an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member, you can also play games with the Play Anywhere feature. For example, you can start a game of Sea of Thieves on your Xbox One, then continue it later on your PC.

This includes big titles like Gears 5 and even Xbox original classic remasters such as Voodoo Vince.

Hopefully this has taught you everything you need to know about what the Xbox Game Pass is and what it offers. If you have any more questions about the new Xbox game catalog subscription service, feel free to reach out.

Nine Months With Nintendo Switch

That will come as a big relief to everyone who was holding their breath and hoping that Nintendo wouldn’t make the same mistakes all over again. Though it’s not perfect, the Switch represents a big one-eighty for Nintendo, not just in terms of sales, but also in terms of approach.

Perhaps the biggest change from the Wii U is that it finally feels like Nintendo has confidence in its platform. It didn’t take long to figure out that the Wii U was going to have a disappointing retail run, and after that became obvious, it felt like Nintendo’s own enthusiasm about the console dwindled quickly. It’s hard to blame Nintendo, but on the other side of the coin, how can customers get excited about buying a console if even the manufacturer isn’t giving its all in supporting and promoting it?

Nintendo almost seems like a completely different company these days. Fueled by consumer enthusiasm for the Switch, this little console is being promoted left and right, and Nintendo is putting first-party games on it at breakneck pace. There’s no such thing as giving a console too much support, but the number of launches the Switch has seen in its first nine months is certainly a rarity in the gaming world.

These aren’t second-string franchises either. Between The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo has thrown some of its biggest franchises on the Switch in its first year. Those have been joined by new (or at least relatively new) franchises like Splatoon, ARMS, and Xenoblade Chronicles, leaving plenty of famous Nintendo characters and series for the years to come.

Not only that, but The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are two of the best-reviewed games of the year. I gave both of those titles scores of 10/10, and I truly believe that when counted together, they are all you need to justify the purchase of a Switch. Both games offer so much excellent content that gamers of all kinds should make it a priority to play them.

Here’s the thing, though: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey aren’t all the Switch has to offer. Even if you have no interest in other Nintendo games, there are plenty of third-party releases and indie games to justify a purchase. It’s true that many of these games are ports of existing titles, but in many cases, they’re worth purchasing again on the Switch.

Take Skyrim, for instance, a game that many of you have played for hundreds of hours already. I thought I was done with Skyrim years ago, after spending many late nights playing and modding it on PC. Regardless of that, I’ve still been drawn to Skyrim on the Switch, thanks to the portability factor. Don’t get me wrong: the PC Skyrim is still the definitive version, but being able to play it anywhere I have my Switch is making even vanilla Skyrim fun again.

The same goes for games like Stardew Valley and The Binding of Isaac. While these games are just as good on other platforms, the Switch’s portability makes all of these a joy to play again. Then we have surprising Switch-exclusives like Golf Story, which seem to come entirely out of left field but are immensely enjoyable.

I’ve been buying consoles – many of them at launch – for the past 25 years, and I have a hard time coming up with a system that was so well supported within its first nine months. Players and developers both seem to be rallying behind the Switch, and assuming Nintendo doesn’t do anything to compromise that, we could be starting a very successful retail run for the console.

Why Is My Nintendo Switch Not Charging?

Is your Nintendo Switch not charging? This is one of the most irritating situations for avid gamers to find their Switch not charging, and hence you cannot turn it on to play!

But fortunately, there are plenty of solutions to get hold of the situation.

Loose Connection – If there is any loose connection between the adapter and the Switch or the main power outlet, then the Switch won’t get charged.

Faulty AC Adapter – If your C adapter is damaged, then you cannot charge the Nintendo Switch with it.

Old Batteries – Old or swelled-up batteries are another reason why the Nintendo Switch is not charging.

Faulty PowerPoint – Make sure that the main power point where you are connecting the AC adapter is working; otherwise, the Switch will not get charged.

Follow this step-by-step guide and fix the issue when your Nintendo Switch is not charging.

When Nintendo Switch not charging, make sure you are using the official Nintendo Switch AC adapter HAC-002 and not HAC-010 that is supplied with the controller.

It is recommended not to use any other AC adapter for your Nintendo Switch; else, you can have issues like this.

Ensure that the AC adapter s properly connected to the dock.

Check that the plug is properly inserted and there is no loose connection; otherwise, the Switch will not be charged.

You should insert it into the dedicated port and not n the USB or HDMI ports.

You should connect your Switch directly to the main wall outlet rather than connecting via extension cords or power strips.

This will help you avoid any loose connection, and the console will get properly charged. If the Switch is still not charging, follow the other solutions.

If you cannot see the charging icon when you have the AC adapter connected, follow these steps:

Unplug the AC adapter from both the main socket and the console or dock.

Wait for a minute. Then connect the adapter to the main socket and the dock or the console.

If the console does not turn on after long hours of charging, possibilities are there that the console is frozen.

To fix it, perform a hard reset.

A hard reset will erase all the data from your console and refresh it.

If, due to any corrupted data, the console is having issues and not charging properly, a hard reset can fix it.

To perform a hard reset, here are the steps:

Press & hold the Power button of the console for about 20 seconds to turn the console completely off.

Next, press the Power button once again to turn the console on. Now you can charge your console and see if it is charging. If not, reset the AC adapter.

Resetting the AC adapter can fix the issue when Nintendo Switch is not charging.

To reset the AC adapter, follow these steps:

Unplug it from both ends. Wait for a minute.

While waiting, check for any sign of physical damage.

If you see the adapter is damaged, replace it.

Then connect one end of the new adapter to the console and the other end directly to the wall outlet.

Now let it get fully charged. After that, see if t is working. If not, check the batteries.

The Nintendo Switch won’t charge if the battery is old and damaged.

Faulty batteries make the switch totally unresponsive.

So, replace the old batteries and now try to charge the Swatch and see if it is charging now.

Sometimes due to a faulty USB-C port, the Nintendo Switch does not get charged.

Here is how to check the port:

Use a flashlight to check if the port is clogged with dust. The clogged port can be the reason why it is not working.

To clean it up, you can use compressed air or cotton buds, or even a toothpick.

But make sure that you are not damaging the port while cleaning.

You should not use any metal to clean the port as that can cause unrepairable damage to the port.

You can also open the Switch and check for any liquid damage. The indicator near the port on the motherboard shall turn red if there is any damage.

You can take the help of an expert to repair the port and replace the motherboard.

If no other methods could fix the problem, you can contact Nintendo’s support unit for help. Nintendo provides fast and easy online repair.

Just visit Nintendo’s repair site and describe your problem. Follow the onscreen instructions provided by the experts to fix the problem.

1. Is my dead switch charging?

If you see a green light on the lower bottom side of the dock, then it means that your Switch is charging.

2. How long is the Switch battery life?

The approximate Switch battery life is 4 to 9 hours.

3. Can I charge my Nintendo Switch without the dock?

You can use a Nintendo USB AC adapter to charge your Nintendo Switch instead of the dock.

So that is all you need to do when the Nintendo Switch is not charging.

How To Reset Your Nintendo Switch Console

The Nintendo Switch is one of my favorite consoles of all time. It lets you play games on the go, or use a Switch stand and dock to play on the TV. However, there are times when things go south and restarting doesn’t fix the issues. In such cases you may need to reset your Switch completely. If you’re in such a situation, don’t worry, here’s how to reset Nintendo Switch.

Reset Nintendo Switch

There are a couple of different ways you can reset your Nintendo Switch depending on why you’re doing it in the first place. In this article we will be covering the different ways you can perform a Nintendo Switch reset. We will also tell you which method to use in what situation.

We have attached screenshots for all the steps (check out how to take screenshots on Nintendo Switch), so you shouldn’t have any problems in following the tutorial. As always, you can use the table of contents below to head over any section in this article.

Completely Reformat and Reset Nintendo Switch

If you want to completely reformat and reset your Nintendo Switch whether its to sell it off, or just to get a completely fresh, clean slate again, this is the method you should use.

Note: In order to completely reset Nintendo Switch before selling, you should be in a place where your Switch is connected to WiFi. This way your Switch will automatically deregister itself from your Nintendo Account.

Go to Settings.

Scroll down to ‘System’

At the very bottom of the right-pane, you will find ‘Formatting Options’.

Scroll down and select ‘Initialize Console’.

Scroll down and select ‘Next’ in the screens that pop-up. Finally, tap on the red button labelled ‘Initialize’. This is the point of no return. Once you’ve tapped on this button you can’t cancel the reset process. So make sure you actually want to reset your console before proceeding.

Reset Nintendo Switch Without Deleting Data

On the other hand, if you’re simply trying to reset your Nintendo Switch in order to fix some issues and you don’t want to lose your data, you will have to follow these steps instead.

This method is slightly more time consuming and complicated to get to. Follow out step-by-step guide below to get this working quickly.

First off, press and hold the power button on your Switch and then turn it off.

Now press and hold the volume up and volume down buttons together. Then press the power button, but keep the volume up and down buttons pressed until you see the Maintenance Mode screen show up.

Here, scroll down and tap on ‘Initialize Console without Deleting Data’.

Tap on next, and then tap on the red button labelled ‘Initialize’. This is the point of no return for the reset. Once you confirm, you can’t cancel the reset process.

Reset Nintendo Switch to Sell or to Fix Issues

So those are the two ways you can reset a Switch console. As we discussed, they are both different in how they behave. So it’s important that you use the correct one as per your requirements. For staying on the safer side, it’s always best to completely initialize your console. However, if you are just resetting to fix a pesky software issue, you can use the second method instead and not lose your data. The choice is yours.
